Yes, now it looks like it's just an oil cooler. I was just nosing around that area on my '13 the other day. Has a big stack of cooling fins, and the hoses that used to go to the radiator on pre-'12 versions are no longer there. Good riddance to that thing.

Looks a lot different than the old round unit. Wow, there sure are a lot of changes in the 13 motor.

 

After reading about the nightmare issues with heat exchanger, I immediately changed them out on for the billet finned onesmy 2 '10 675 racbikes and ran them both hard for a few seasons with no issue. One was from JHS and the other was from Triumph Race Support. They look identical.

 

That's good to hear you've had success with the billet versions, thanks for the info.

It's definitely extremely frustrating when they pop! It cost me an overall novice championship this past season but that's racing, I was just lucky I didn't highside myself to the moon when it happened. Now onto racing the with the big boys in the expert class.

 

Thanks Tony, I have a TRS billet cooler waiting to be delivered IN THE MORNING! I was so scared of it popping on me while at a trackday.

This info puts my mind at ease, if they will hold up to all out racing.

Read pages 3 and 4, the coolant runs inside the block, but it is there.

Wow, looks like it still is indeed a heat exchanger. Never would have guessed, considering it's shape and lack of the old external hose runs. Thanks for the info.

Except now I'm back to being worried about it failing again, lol. Hopefully they come up with a more robust design.

 

That's the new heat exchanger? I would never have picked that one out of a line up.

I think it's a must for the 06-12 bikes to swap out the stock exchanger. I changed mine out after I saw two blow up on two different bikes in the same weekend. It's clearly a design flaw.

 

What exactly failed on the earlier models, literally blow out at the seams? Have there been any problems with the 13+ engines?

 

We haven't seen any issues on the 2013.

 

Great! If you guys can run those races without blowing any up I shouldn't ever have to worry about it then.

 

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

 

I have used 2 different one oilcoolers in my 09 racebike after oem heatexhanger failure.
By my experience ; using external cooler for oil the biggest advantage U get is 5-10 degrees C lower engine temperature .
Also increased oilcapacity is good.

When using adjustable triples with reduced offset I had some lack of space to locate cooler between
headers and front tyre.
