I've had the 2012 STR, LOVE it. Is the 2013 a better bike? Worth a possible $2000 difference? Give me your thoughts!

Technically speaking, the new bikes should be better. Also of note, the new stripple has the same exhaust ports as the outgoing daytona (not round).

Nuno!

I think this statement says a lot about the new triumphs. Triumph is aiming at BMW in a big way just look at the new trophy and the tiger adventure bikes. If they got someone who seems to know there bmws like jagman to convert the new bikes must be awesome. BMW is a hard competitor to tackle and triumph seems to be doing it. From what im reading the 13 seems quite a bit better than the old bike.

Jagman good taste in bikes!

I would say no unless you just love the new one that much more... Or the performance of your bike is holding you back.... Then you may need something different altogether.
Keep the 12 and use the $$ to do something to it you really want or track day!

The new striple is lighter and has ABS with slightly different rake and trial, with a taller 1st gear, so yes it is improved over the 2012. The Striple yester-years are great bikes, R or no R, and while the latest is the greatest, 2K is good coin. If I had the extra cash then I would buy the 13, but if you can live without all the improvements the then buy the 12, and use the cash for gas.

I have a 2012 Street Triple R. I like the shorter reported seat hight and apparent better gas mileage of the 2013. Not currently a fan of the more angular design, but it would probably grow on me. Maybe you love it at first sight.

I however do not want a reported more "tame" gearing like on the 2013. I have never ridden a 2013, so this is just an assumption based on what I have read. Maybe I wouldn't notice. I am sure it is a great bike and down the line when it is time to replace the bike, if ever, I will buy a new one. Right now, in my current riding style, I want every ounce of hooligan I can get... it appears the 2012 gearing is a better fit.

Additonally accessories and aftermarket upgrades, if that is you thing, may be limited if there are enough changes on the 2013.

In the end though, buy what you want. It is your bike and whichever style fits your taste, go with that. I can't see how either is a bad buy. If you can sit on both that may sway you as well. Think it through though otherwise you may be asking again when the 2014s come out.

Just my opinion.

I had a good opportunity when the IMS show was in town the other week to sit on a 2012 STR that the local dealer brought in, and then jump over and sit on the 2013 STR right next to it. I liked the ergos of the 2012 a lot better as a daily driver. The 2013 felt more Daytona-ish to me. Unless the looks/ABS are really what is driving you to the '13, I would go sit on one before you make the change and make sure you're happy with it.

I have both bikes in my garage. I've had the 13 for about 6 weeks. Both bikes were the same price but we have to pay a little over $14k for them here. My STR13 does not come with ABS. It's an option in Australia that is only just becoming available. All of the brackets exist for it front and rear.

Back to the question. No, the STR13 is not $2000 better but it is better. You can hop from one bike to another and come away with a similar experience. You'd have to be riding with critical and analytical mindset to worry too much about the differences.

I choose to go out on the STR13. I can ride to work in busy traffic without having to think about the bike. It's super easy to ride. I've had the suspension set up and run it around a few tracks. I had a ball. I even left my dedicated track bike in my trailer one day because the STR was too much fun. (Ive done that on the 2012 version too.)

You can't go wrong with either decision as both versions will have you smiling ear to ear each time you ride them. As I said though, I think the 13 is better but I doubt it's $2000 better.

I am in Australia and I took delivery of my STR13 in December, no ABS and will not be available in Australia until at least April as an option for $500 extra, I was a little disappointed at first as I was mislead by everything I read about the bike saying it had ABS until a couple of days before I was to take delivery and found out that it was not fitted to my bike, but this did not stop me from buying it, it is a great bike.
