valve check my maff!

so....i did my first valve check today (skipped it at 10k) and got some somewhat worrying results. i wanna know what your opinions are?

my bike is a '12 R w/20k miles that i commute on every day and it sits at 8k rpm pretty much all the time. i'm attributing this to my results.

from left to right:

EX: .356 / .356 / .356 / .381 / .381 / .356
IN: .127 / .127 / .152 / .152 / .127 / .127

so all my exhaust valves are way loose. should be (.275 - .325mm), intakes are all good though (.10 - .20mm).

can i attribute these results to high EGTs from running constant RPMs for long distance?

guess i'm pulling off her girdle tomorrow.. :curtsey:

Get the spreadsheet on this site to help you measure the correct shim

Why are you worried about the results ???

Valves clearances (especially the exhaust) tighten with use ..... that yours are on the loose side is a good thing especially since you skipped the first recommended check.

I did mine very early as part of my build and reset them all uniformly on the tight side of centered. From the factory every exhaust valve was on the loose side of spec which I also saw as a good thing.

I would be happy with your findings. Finding them very tight would have been cause for concern.

worried because either my head wasn't machined well (likely) or the valve seats are dropping from high EGTs?? (i'm a diesel guy...common problem)

i set them back in spec and after doing some search here, found that MANY MANY of us have only the EX valves out of spec, and wide on first inspection. in fact, found several posts with the same measurements i got.

where are your valves at?

shimming is easy, no spreadsheet needed. my Hot Cams kits only have .05mm increments, so it's really either one or the other.

that's all done now anyway. thanks tho! spreadsheets......haha!

edit: got 'er all done & running *****in again. quieter, smoother and more mid range. i'm pretty happy with the results. glad i spent today doing that instead of watching the misery-bowl. :D
