There's nothing special about the corner other than the fact that it's popular and there are always people there with cameras, so it's a combination of two things:

1. Numbers. If enough people go through the corner, SOMEONE is gonna mess up.

2. Idiots trying to look cool for cameras. (I've totally done this before myself when I was an idiot but I didn't mess up, just cornered way sharper than I normally would)

I commented the same thing on a youtube there for the same corner and got berated about how there's something technical about that turn.

That guy posts a lot of footage at the corner, for every shitty rider there's a dozen that smoke it no problem.

I have heard from a few buddies down there that the road is kinda shitty and that there is a big bump or something... Not really sure... Honestly I think it's just the camera presence that makes people crash

 

I agree rnickey sets up there with a few other photographera and the riders might get spoojed or something that there is a presence. Its always different when a camera is eyeing u up amd your trying not to crash which ends up you losing your focus and actually crashing

Lead up to the corner starts at the 2:00 mark. It does not look like it is technical, just a lot sharper than any of the other corners.

On the way up the hill before and after the apex on the outside of the corner the road flattens out, making it a negative camber turn in just those parts. You also can't see the outside edge of the road on your way up around the bend, which causes various mistakes by the riders.

At least so I've been told =).

He would've been fine if he had an R1. That R6 is just too slow for him.

 

You can here his tires squeak twice before the corner , looks like he just chickened out and paniced.

Another one of his vids had to laugh at the 4.10 sec part a old two stroke bike followed buy the police, even they look like there are having a ball. Seams like a great place to ride.
