I'll buy a new 2011 675 if they

I have a 2006 675 track bike. I have put a lot of $$ into the bike but not into the motor or exhaust. My comment has always been that I never wished i had more horsepower than the 106RWH that this bike has. However I went to the Penguin School at Homestead Florida for a Ducati sporsored school . I took my 996 and the 675. First time out on the 996 it handled like a truck and I went off the track( I'm lazy when it comes to turning in , the track was wet and there are these concrete strips inside the apex that were disconcerting)

Really felt bad and went out next on the 675.. Now we are cooking. my laziness in turning in is overcome by the 675's faster turn in and the PRC race tire i have on front. but now I am coming up on the long Nascar straights which are really wide like a parking lot and tryng to keep up with the 1098's and I finally wished i had more horsepower!!!
So if the triumph 2011 Triumph 675 is updated ie more reponsive engine, lighter engine, more refined engine management system , lighter stronger frame and wheels etcI'll buy it. if they came out with a 675 R (ohlins suspension , slipper clutch ,forged wheels, etcthat would be even better.

Two different classes in bikes, bro. 675 will never catch up to 1098 on a straight, too much power difference, but can beat the crap out of it on the corners. Supersports shine on the corners, not the straights like Superbikes; they sacrifice high speed stability for agility. The 675 is already responsive, and has great engine management. You just can't really say it's a fair fight between those two. That is why the 848 is in the Supersport class.

The 2009+ have better top end IIRC.

However I would save your money and just learn how to ride faster. I have to deal with this all the time at Fontana. Doing what I describe below is a good skill to master: Using the track layout to your advantage.

Its always with Ducatis too. They would catch up to me on the front and back straights and I would lose them in the corners. I see it as a good challenge on how I can eventually lose them from passing me in the straights. Here are my general rules below:

If they are behind me and a corner is coming up, I know I can do really fast turn ins. I can always rely on either cutting the corner later so they have to brake harder because they will all of a sudden see Im cutting across them. Doing this I can carry faster corner speed and accelerate out. Its kinda a gutsy move, so you have to know the rider if they will do something stupid. Doing this buys you a little time if coming out of the corner is a straight. So I make sure to do this on a relatively short straight (like for Turn 4 and 5).

If they are in front of me, I would rely on my cornering skills. If Im signifcantly faster than them, I will just pass them in a corner. If its only slight, I set myself to pass on a chicane. I will set myself on the outside about same distance...maybe show them a wheel and when the other half the chicane is there, be on the inside to set up a "block" manuever. That way coming out I am ahead and I would hope that another corner is coming up soon. This works well for me on Turns 3 & 4 and 7 & 8 at Fontana

Also, if you good traffic jam is there, you can also use that to your advantage to block them and get ahead.

If they pass you on a straight, try to get on a draft with them. When the corner is coming up, watch for them to "pop-up." When they do this, you know they are braking. Just brake later and take the corner faster.

Of course before you employ all this, you have to study the rider. When they pass you, get into "study mode" and watch learn things about the rider ahead of you. See what you can to get around them and what you can't. See their strengths and weakness...maybe learn something from them. Then once you know the rider's pattern, use it to your advantage. Of course, if they screw up and an opportunity to pass comes up, just pass.

I would just go ahead & invest in a decent system, PCIII or Tune Boy, free flow filter & a little head work and you gain about 10 to 12 RWBHP. You can do this without suffering reliability problems.

When at Portimao earlier in the year I was running my 675 (no head work but with Decatted Headers, PCIII & K&N Filter) and with the corner speed I had comin on to the start finish straight I wasn't getting passed by the I4 litre bikes or the 1098's until about three quarters of the way down and then I got most of them back un brakes. This was a track day so not really a good gage as abilities vary alot but gives you an idea what this little monster can do and a fast flowing circuit and I'm middle of the fast group type pace. In the right hands she's a little ripper. :nod:

Thanks For the advice guys , I was really geting stoked on buying a new bike but I guess its the driver not the bike ... Back to Keith Code LOL.. going to a track day at Jennings Florida on January 24th .. there will be a bunch of Ducati's there have to try out being faster in the corners

That's a good track to do it on as tight as it is. Made for the 675.. Enjoy

Maybe my request is too simple... after a couple years of basically having the choice between red and black (the best colour), I'd be interested if some new colours were available in 2011.

As far as more power... I can already scare the crap out of myself with what it's got... more would be nice but not necessary.

i thought they did a lot of these egine tweaks for 2009?

I also remember seeing a ohlins-triumph speed triple show bike on here recently that was supposed to symbolize a new relationship between ohlins and Triumph? i may be wrong though.

I've seen fast guys on stock equipment that make guys on expensive equipment look stupid. Skills...:nod: Plus more rewarding when that happens.
