Bleeding the front brakes once a week!?!

Hey guys.

I have an issue with my front brakes. I am having to bleed my front brakes once a week to keep a good lever. I have been told by a local mechanic that I should do a master cylinder rebuild. I'm not sure how much work that is or how much skill is required. Anybody done this before? Also, he said if I wanted to get a new master cylinder, an 05-06 ZX-636 shares the same part. I have a friend parting out his 05 ZX-636 and want to make sure it will be compatible before I pick it up.

Any help will be appreciated.

5,XXX miles on the 2009 Street Triple R. I have bled them consistently and the shop has done it on 2 separate occasions.

I've never had an issue with the bike before...

I do all my own maintenance and haven't been back to the Triumph dealer since the original purchase. Is that going to cause an issue with the warranty?

Negative ghost rider. This is why I am so troubled by this. I have been checking after every ride and I don't notice any leaking at the calipers or MC.

Well clearly air is seeping in somewhere. Not sure why your mechanic would suggest an MC rebuild or an entire new one when it doesn't seem certain that's the problem. Why don't you try this: take some water, mix a little soap in it, and put it around the edges of all your bleeders. Zip-tie the brake lever overnight, and you'll see lots of soapy bubbles form around a leak if there is one. If that doesn't narrow down the problem, then I would consider an MC rebuild.

Good call MGF! Why didn't I think of this? I've done this countless time with car tires over the years. Never thought of applying this theory to brakes though! Mixing soap and water now. I'll let you know if you can ad a tally to the "another satisfied customer" count! Thanks.
