approx how much longer? i assume these are tried and true?
Unsure if you're asking me questions that were already answered in the opening post either directly, or through links to the previous GB thread with user's testimonials towards the end of that thread. Perhaps you could be a little more specific with what you want answered if the OP isn't providing the information you seek.

i followed a link. a couple of links i think. i read for a bit and decided i was in. the post i read was still the trigonometry stage. just wondering if a set had been made and ridden. then i read someone else makes some here, there, e bay, blah blah. i got lost i might have posted this before i read some more. it was late. i still want em. i'll look again for eta and such. i see this is the second time around. cool.

After much deliberation...i'm finally in on this one...about roughly how much is it in US dollars?

1 AUD ~= 0.75 USD at today's exchange rates, so approx. 56USD delivered to your door, plus whatever exchange rate overheads that Paypal hits you up for.

Is it possible to make a greater reduction? I'm 1.7m tall and I believe that a reduction of 40mm would make it much more confortable. Also, is there any changes in stability or ciclistic on riding after changing these links? Thanks!

A 40mm reduction is possible. I actually have a few pairs plates here with that amount of drop which I had made up for my street-fighter project bike. They're brand new/unused. I had installed the 20mm drop plates and decided that was good enough, so never got around to installing them.

If lowering the rear by 40mm though this will slow down steering quite markedly. You'll need to drop the front on the forks as well to offset the increase in steering rake.

Let me know if you're still interested. If you are, make yourself a 40mm Height Reduction Plates category on the above list and add yourself to it.

Is there any pattern of front reduction after lowering the rear? Any formula or parameter to do it? How tall are you (since 20mm links are confortable for you)?

Sorry for so many questions that may be too basic, but I'm still learning about suspension settings.

Thanks!
Cesar

FLUX - a question on plates. I was in on the 1st GB for one of the ill-fated 10mm drop sets, but was wondering at the time about whether to go with the 20mm instead. I don't care about being able to flatfoot at stops or such, I am interested in getting the bike's overall CG down. This is for street-based use, with trackday time not out of the question but a low priority. I am currently running the forks flush with only the cap exposed, and may go back to a couple of mm of gold showing with the stock rear plates. Bike seems to have more than enough clearance to allow for some overall drop on the street without running into any issues.

Now that you've gotten some time in with the 20mm plates on your SF, what would you recommend for someone looking to lower CG while retaining both the ability to muck around with fork height and sufficient clearance for some fairly dedicated (but responsible of course!) scratching?

TIA - Steve

I installed the 20mm drop plates and have 9-10mm of gold showing above the triples on the fighter. I removed the stock footpeg "hero blobs", and near as I can calculate, would have lost around 2 degrees of lean angle clearance before the pegs touch down, which still equates to a pretty high 56 degrees of lean angle. Unless I'm running around the track with race spec rubber I'm not likely to get the pegs to touch down, and even if they did they'd slide and fold up better without those sharp bolts hanging out.

The rear has lost a net bias of 10mm of height, but with the overall lowering of the CoG, I've not noticed this as any real slowdown in the steering. The bike is more stable, doesn't wheelie as easily, and doesn't have that front end wanting to tuck feeling at high lean. The bike transitions more quickly too.

Look, I could just be biased, and keep in mind that this is purely coming from me who I would categorise as merely an aggressive road rider and "novice racer" quick rider at the track, but to my mind it was one of the better mods I've ever done to the bike.

There's no set pattern when making a modification like this (huge reduction of rear ride height). You change things more by feel and how it affects you and your bike when you're riding. When you lower the rear, the steering slows down. What this means is that the bike feels a little heavier to steer and requires larger inputs to change direction. Now, on a nimble bike like the 675 which has a very aggressive steering geometry to start with, you can actually get away with some pretty large changes in dropping the rear height before it has a major effect.

Dropping both front and rear lowers the center of gravity. This has benefits in that the bike becomes easier to change direction on as the bike's weight is lower to the ground and doesn't have to travel as far to go from one side to the other. This offsets the slowdown in steering from dropping the rear down.

As for me, I'm 182cm and have a fairly long inseam and can still flat foot on my other 675 that is raised by 5mm (front and rear). Lowering the 'fighter bike, to me, means that I clear the seat by a fair way now. It's like a 400cc bike now (to me). The summary is though that I made the modifications for handling purposes, and not out of necessity for me to flat-foot the bike. That was never an issue for me.

If you were going to install 40mm drop plates (which equates to about a 25mm drop in seat height), I would also pull the forks through the triple tree about as far as you can get away with, which I reckon would be about 12mm of gold showing above the triples. I also probably wouldn't do the full 40mm rear drop, but rather wind up the rear preload by 10mm or so to achieve a ~30mm drop. All together that should equate about a 24mm drop in seat height while keeping the steering acceptably quick. I'd also remove the peg feelers from the footpegs so that they don't touch down too easily.

I'm in for 10mm reduction plates, thanks.
