I don't mind paying the price for things worth the price but after seeing these products at 150 and up I've been working and looking for a good DIY plan. After looking at gentleman_jons set up and a link to a universal tag holder the idea came to me and I will be done shortly I hope.

I wanted it to look as close to just taking the factory piece off and using the available space for all other lighting. Pics and ideas coming soon:thumbsup:

Yes... Nice job but those of us with two cans up high have other issues.
Low pipes would solve many issues!

I just did mine myself yesterday. I should mention that I also replaced the oem brake light with a motodynamic light w/ integrated turn signals. I can post a detailed write up later when I take it off to paint it, but for now the quick rundown:

- Removed original fender / lights
- removed red reflector from below brake light
- bent a piece of steel to match desired profile.
- drilled two holes (15/64) at same location as red reflector holes.
- used M6-1.0x12 bolts and M6 nylon lock nuts to secure bent plate to housing.
- drilled 3 holes in steel to mount oem plate bracket to steel (used bracket as guide)
- mount plate bracket to steel using original torx bolts / M6 nuts
- total cost: $2.81 (not including the new brake light, natch)
- jump kick cause I just saved myself $150+

Very nice... I like that idea... was using my reflector holes for my blinkers, tag underneath the lip. Keeping my red taillight... We'll see, but like that... :)

Tends to be tougher if you're still running high pipes......:blech2:

I'm looking at a lot of these kits and am finding it hard to reason why they cost as much as they do. I'm trying to figure a way to make a kit and some brackets to run a home made fender kit with some existing hardware and making it look tasteful and not a garage jerryrig. And still be street legal.....

Here is where I am so far... but am possibly going with a single pipe low boy which will simplify everthing, so I am holding here for now.

When you take the OEM, 20 lb tag holder off you are left with no guards on the side up into you under seat storage and so everything can get very wet / dirty in a short time... so a little aluminum cutting/ such along with some riveting and then 3M Carbon tape and that part was handled.

Then took my 9.99 tag holder from China / ebay and riveted it to the bending lip of the under tail. More to come. If I change exhaust... my blinker set up will change for sure... :)

By tip you mean at the protruding corner on the bottom side... Good suggestion!

Thanks.

:rofl2:Ok... so finally done with it... bad picture, but I can take more if you wish...

Bascially removed the 6 pound tail from the factory, then riveted some aluminum to the sides of plastic storage space that was left open by the factory removal and covered it with 3M Carbon for a nice look.

Riveted the $10 bracket hanger recommended on the is forum to the lip on the undertray and then after removing the reflector; I used the two holes there for my LED blinkers... Very simple; no issues. :)
