Seems to be a better place to post a build thread..

The History..
I picked up my Daytona May 14 2014 after having had an ugly wreck on my old Yamaha... April 26, 2014 I got hit by a car on my R6... Resulted in this lovely hole in my knee.
Image

Weeks later..
Image

I was getting dicked around by insurance on the R6 and medical bills, they which eventually decided to pay out...with which I said enough of the Yamaha and went to the Daytona..

No less than a month Later I was back on a bike...I had tried to sit on my buddies 13 D675...but the stitches in my knee wouldn't let me bend it enough to get up on the rear set...later that night I pulled my own stitches out with some scissors and an automotive pick.. Refused to stay down..

And here we are...May 15th When I brought her home..

I Instantly fell in love with the Daytona, how Nimble it was, how linear and smooth the powerband was.. however It wasn't long after picking up the bike that I realized she had lived a hard life and been neglected and abused...

I had a Stator shit on me and leave me stranded which ended up being caused by the previous owners ghotti install allowing the wires to get eat up by the flywheels..

So, I nut and bolted her to see what else was going on...pulled the oil pan to clean out any potential wire fragments..
Image

Image

After getting her back up on the road again...it didnt take long to attract attention as I was enjoying my wonderful new bike..
Image

Later that day...enjoying the look of this beauty..and if anyone is wondering...It's Platidip..
Image

The Transformation then came...The second I Saw the bike I thought it looked like Toothless from How to Train your Dragon from the headlight shape...so naturally...I had to make her Toothless..

Image

She became black..

And met up with some friends.

She wore her new Color well!
Image

Then after enjoying her....just riding home from work...

Catastrophe hit.. What sounded like a misfire ended up being far more... Initial inspection told me she needed a heart transplant..
Image

My third cylinder had suffered a total failure, I am yet to discover a cause..

After removing the engine and putting it on a stand, removal of the head confirmed the worst nightmare...there was no rebuilding this.

Sleeves are Cracked...Connecting rod went through the block, head is ruined. Nothing really worth keeping except spare parts.

So, the hunt was on for a new engine... which I was finally able to source from a fellow Forum Member!

During this time the bike just sat...torn apart, miserable... She was at my friends shop who was on deployment while I was stacking chips to rebuild...

And so it began..

Image

Subframe got a little paint..
Image

Refinished the Tip on my Jardine and gave it some paint..
Image

Coated the mid pipe in prep for wrap
Image

And then the Carbon started...
Image

Image

Image

Then the Motor got in...
Image

And that's how she sits right now...waiting on parts...and its really cold here in Colorado..just had a foot of snow hit last night.

Stay tuned...

Tail is OEM Triumph, purchased from a forum member second hand with a little rash spot.

Front Fender is OEM - Thanks Riders Discount on the part out hook up!

Tire Hugger is OEM - Thanks Imperial SportBikes!

Exhaust Cap - Clearly Factory Jardine accessory.

Heel Guards, Chain Guard, Infills and Nose are Bestem.

So far only the heel guards have arrived!

but!!! More parts came in today!

SKUR CF Gas Tank Cover thingy... BMC Air Filter to replace my old gnarly PiperCross (Thanks RidersDiscount again!), CF Heel Guards came in, aaaaaaaaand some DEI Ti Heat Wrap..

Still have more goodies on order.

Haven't made any actual progress on the assembly...seeing as we've had a couple feet of snow lately and work has been kicking my ass.

Regardless, Everyone loves Pics! Sooooo...

Skur goodies - Posted for a STR but..thinking it'll be the same as D675.
Image

Bestem Heel Guards - Appears to be all CF, no Fiberglass...heard issues on strength..but we'll see. I might strengthen them with Fiberglass.
Image

Image

Aaaaaaand all the shit together.

the black is plastidip or the white? how's it holding up, especially on tank

Made some major progress today, got it all together enough to where I could fire it up and listen to her whistle for the first time in months.

Got the Driven SAI Block off plates installed - Thanks to fellow forum members information about them actually working with OE hardware and all that good jazz. So anyone wondering..they fit and work great.

Got the old PiperCross air filter removed and the new BMC thrown in - Thanks Riders Discount for the awesome price on quality parts.

Got the CF Heel guards mounted, they might be a bit flimsy..but I'll strengthen with fiberglass or something.

Mounted up the CF Front fender finally - Thanks Riders Discount again.

But most of all, started working on the wiring to get stuff deleted properly and simplify the harness piece by piece, going to continue working on that into tomorrow.

The main piece of progress today was getting it fired up, radiator mounted back up and all the fluids done.

Threw a Wix Filter on and some Rotella in it just to get up to temp and throttle around a little before I dumped that oil, its just to flush out the system.

Radiator is full of water just to flush it out in case of any rust or debris being in the cooling jackets. Tomorrow the good oil and OE Triumph filter goes on as well as the Engine Ice in the radiator.

Also, reclearcoated by Chain Fin guard thingy..and added some more clear to the tank sliders that will go on after its all done at paint..

Enjoy the pics! I'll try and get a good video uploaded here as soon as its all together and ready..

Next big order will be the Nose, Windscreen and a few other small pieces. Still waiting on my Infills and chain guard to come in from Bestem in CF.

without further rambling...some pics..

Old Vs. New

Working on some shortenings and deletes.

Reshooting some clear.

Driven SAI Deletes.

CF Fender on!
Image

Interesting Observation..the PiperCross uses 2 less screws than the BMC..so I'll need to source a couple more...as well as get larger screws for the airbox lid itself as most of mine were stripped and didnt seal..

Probably going to do actual paint this time around.

R&G Axle sliders arrived today...Tracking shows my new nose cowl arriving today..and windscreen tomorrow.

Hopefully I'll have it all together and painted by the end of the month if we ever get the temp for the paint to set up.

it's been a palmy 10*F here in Colorado all day.

Axle slider came from RevZilla..

As well as some other goodies..

Zero Gravity DB came in today as well as Zero Gravity bolts..just because why not..

Got the rest of my CF in..

The infills appear to be a slightly different mounting than OE..but I think it'll work..

Bestem on the Chain guard, heel guards, infills and nose fairing...all of which arrived :D

Pics soon!!

Lot's of progress made today.

With the arrival of Parts from Bestem and RevZilla I was finally able to get some of the body work done.

Dropped by a local parts store to get fresh Oil in her, picked up an OEM Oil Filter and drain plug crush washer. Still wasn't able to fire it today due to taking time to do a lot of other small projects.

But, without further delay...here comes the Pics..

Early on during the day I had to get the shitty black plastic chain guard off and fit my Bestem Carbon Fiber! The weave matches very well to the heel guards and the tail hugger as well as the tail.

Image

Closer shot.
Image

This was definitely what the bike was missing to tie it all together.

This was during the process of painting the tail and mocking up some other pieces, you can see the Titanium DEI Wrap on the exhaust from here.
Image

Close up shot of the paint on the tail..It's only temporary to see what type of design we want to go with, what I want to leave exposed carbon fiber, and what will eventually get professionally painted..
Image

My buddy working on taping up the Carbon Fiber Nose fairing to see what sort design we like on the front..
Image

The line we followed for the split between paint and carbon fiber.. Plan on running a red pin stripe to cover the transition on the final paint.
Image

What we ended up going with on the Nose. obviously the taped area's will be the exposed CF
Image

More tail shots.
Image

Post continued to next page so I dont have an issue with too many pictures in one post..

#18 ·
Yet again...another tail shot.
Image

Dan going "full tuck" behind the finished nose cowl haha.
Image

And some more nose...showing some love for RevZilla and R&G on the Zero Gravity DB Windscreen (from RevZilla)
Image

The assembled mock up of the left side.. Turn signal still missing, and unfortunately the nose is going to require EVEN MORE modification to sit right.. And...you can kinda see...but I Gold DEI heat taped almost the entire underside of the airbox to try and keep the temps down..I still might redo it to do the ENTIRE airbox on bottom.. started running out of tape though.
Image

Now for the annoying part... The nose cowl required 1) The alignment down that goes into the center of the headlight to be completely cut out... it was off center and not allowing proper fitment..

The area around the "eyes" to be shaved down with a dremel..

The mounting holes for the Mirrors to be enlarged with a drill..

Aaaaaaaaaaaand the headlight still wont mount correctly due to this..
Image

Image

Going to bring my OE nose fairing to the shop tomorrow to see where we might need to modify, or manipulate with a heatgun if we can to make it sit..but its a quarter inch gap or so.

I have already contacted Bestem about the issue and will hopefully hear back from them within the coming week.

But...a last minute mock up shot..where you can see the fitment issues on the nose cowl to the OEM Side fairing..aaaaaaaand kinda an idea of what the bike will look like when its finished.
Image

Kinda taped it off on the sides to look somewhat like a 13+ D675.. Dan's idea...and he has never seen the new one..great minds think alike I guess.

Image

Not sure who is really looking at my build...but...feel free to post up so I know im not writing this all for myself lol

And oh yea...when some of the goodies arrived..

Thanks for the kind words!

I'm currently chasing down an oil leak...only a couple drops left on the ground, but the inside of my fairings have a nice amount of oil... Thinking its a loose bolt on my clutch cover..

OR, the fact that I was in a hurry to get it back up to ride and reused my old cover gaskets.. so, I picked up a whole set of cover gaskets from the dealer today and am Gonna change those out tomorrow..clean it all up nice, brake clean and a brush and clean the engine as best I can..

Then next oil change i'm gonna drop the pan and replace the pan gasket...a whopping $68 and some change from the dealer..

But, it makes for an ideal time to send my Header out to T3RMIN@T0R to do my cat delete and new merge collector..

Either way, a friend took a pic of her with a couple CBR600RR's..

Image

I know everyone loves pics :p

Thanks man! I really appreciate it!!

She still has lots of work left to be really where I want it to be...but, it'll probably wait till next season or later down the road.

The only current things Im really going to do now are get my header sent out and get her on the dyno..

I've been hunting down a tiny oil leak for a day or so now, I thought it was the clutch cover gasket, but I'm going to replace a few other gaskets now, just waiting on parts to ship in from GB...

Lucky 3rd gen owners, their Pan Gasket is $15....first gen owners... $68 after tax from the dealer..

The nose is starting to fit better now that its been through some ambient engine heat and bolted up.. I still need to get some more OEM Hardware, I need a speed nut for the back of the CF Infill panel on one side to really make it fit right.. but..it's been a lot of work and time coming to get this far.

Im really happy other people are enjoying the build!

Next season I plan to tear it all apart again and THOROUGHLY go through the engine harness and clean up, shorten, reloom and find better mounting solutions for a lot of things. I saw thread's where guys have moved the relays to under the tank and it looks super clean! so..its on my list of things to do, but I'm not as ingenuitive as some of the other members

if you find you need some stock bolts hit me up, I have quite a few spares.. just not the large pan head ones for the fairings.

Thanks JD! I ended up just ordering one from the Stealership..

However! Update as to the next Project!

Between Co-Ordinating with James and Nathan, the Brembo Front and Rear Brake swap is underway..

P34 Rear Brembo Brake Arrived today! I'm working with Nathan on any potential clearance issues using the larger Brembo rear brake with his Bracket.

James was kind enough to provide me the specs for the Brake lines using the GSXR Brembo's.

I just need to source out the M10x1.25x70 bolts to mount up to the lower forks!

Pics upon more parts and installation!

Only have a few more issues to figure out..

One of which, TJ is telling me the OEM Daytona 675R Brembo MC isnt strong enough to push two separate lines to the GSXR Brembo calipers..

Also an Interesting post I found.
For reference, a buddy of mine has a 2011 675R, and he recently upgraded to an RCS m/c from the stock brembo m/c. He thought there was a huge difference there as well. So if your budget allows, I think it's better to spend $300 on the RCS (which can be used on virtually any modern sport bike and you can always resell for close to that) rather than $100+ for the stock brembo m/c from a 675R.

I like the caliper!

Will have my custom brake line in from coremotor on Saturday, once mounted up I will give you the dimensions if you like what you see.

Are you running Nathan's bracket with a stock rear brake master JD?

I do actually need the dimensions to send to Core Moto, I got the front specs from James, but need the order form for the rear.

The MC not strong enough? it is fluid so as long as you squeeze pressure will be equalized to both calipers. I find it hard to believe that a brembo wouldnt be strong enough. The lines are not going to change how the brakes perform, only makes it more convenient in taking the wheels off.

And of course the 675R is not a top of the line brembo, they never do put that great of stuff on OEM bikes when it comes to Brembo, they are just slightly better than Nissin in most cases.
