Hi all
Coming up on the 40,000 km service on my 14 D675R
Starting to get everything in place and I have a couple of questions.
Before I get to the questions I’d like to mention that I live in a beautiful but shitty country that’s getting shittier by the day. I’m saying this bcs currently it’s damn near impossible for me to order anything from abroad, and there are no local sources for triumph parts since the only dealership closed down a couple of years ago (a year or so after I purchased one of two Daytonas ever sold here). Since then I’ve been doing my own maintenance and stuck having to plan months ahead for any kind of service.
So here I am, 35,000 Km on the clock on my Daytona, wondering about the 40K. I’ve got it nearly figured but here are my questions.
1- Cam chain.
Does the cam chain need to be checked/replaced at 40K? This bike has never seen the track, but has been ridden pretty aggressively nearly 50% of the time, working hard to keep up with her 1000cc monster buddies. Not a hiccup so far she’s been on point every single time. Note I have an APE manual CCT installed. I hear a very faint chain buzz every once in a while and I kept the CCT on the slightly loose slide on purpose.
2- Valve shims.
At the 20K service all valve clearances were in spec. I’m suspecting this might be different at 40 and I might be needing some replacement shims this time around.
Buying an entire shim kit might be impossible for many reasons. So my question is: are the shims interchangeable with those on the more popular Japanese bikes?? There are more Yamahas, Suzuki’s, and Kawasakis here than there are grains of sand and finding individual shims to exchange or buy would be a lot easier and cheaper for me.
Id like to be a step ahead this time since I will be doing this job at home and I would hate to take her apart with no way out if I need any shims.
Thanks!
