Looks like I am putting together a little ride to Talimena Dr (mountain ridge that runs from OK into AR) for Sat July 19.
So far it looks like we will probably have:
ME
THEbananaDZL
Dave73
Whiteknight724

Maybe:
Neanderthal
NoClue90

This will be an ALL DAY trip for everyone involved. For those of us in OKC its about 4 hours each way to Mena, AR and thats if you take interstate for a chunk of it. (3hours to Talihena, OK where we will meet Dave73) Same thing for Dave in McKinney, TX. Those in Springfield its almost 5 hours taking some of the quicker routes or 4 1/2 if they meet us in Talihena, OK. So this will be a sun up to sundown kind of day.

I haven't worked out all the timing yet but more or less, those in OKC will leave from near TAFB around 7:30am and meet Dave73 in Talihena, OK around 11:00am (with a gas stop in McAlister, OK). Then head across Talimena Drive to Mena, AR where we will meet the Springfield riders (assuming they don't instead meet us in Talihena, OK). Lunch in Mena, then back across Talihena Dr with the whole group and some rural routes back. Basically were trying to get there as early as the Springfield guys think they can make it there.

Just tossing out a general plan for now
IN the event anyone has a friend / buddy that wants to go along - just make sure that you know they can handle an all day ride at a brisk pace. We don't need the group getting too held up if someone isn't up for the time and a little speeding.

I don't know what route you would plan to take down there and back, but I mapped out almost the quickest route. This includes you taking Talimena Dr Westbound with a detour to the south that Dave73 tells me is a nice side trip (looks good on the map) This would have you running Talimena just 1 way while the rest of us run it both ways but Dave pointed out that since its a weekend, it will have some traffic so its not like we would have it all to ourselves like we do on Push Mtn.

The rest of us will probably meet Dave in Atoka, OK on this kind of route.

Not decided yet if I'd just cut over on I-40 to 23 on the way home or not, have to see how the day is progressing. I'd prefer to stay off the Interstate if possible. They've done some work on 23 since you were down there in April, I rode it again in May and it was a lot better (besides being wet).

Everyone's glad to see Travis. He's like the condom man. When you're miles from home and you need rubber, see Travis. He's always glad to let you have his slightly used rubber.

Same here. I keep thinking it's this coming Saturday, lol. I could tell I was a tad bit rusty this past weekend..... need .....to......ride......moar.
I'm rusty. All I'm getting in is rush hour interestate rides to work. And the ride TO Talimena will be a lot of strait roads.
I might be a scenic rider when I get there.

I will be my normal scenic self. On a 600 mile day I'm not pushing it. One way or another my ODO will say 600 for the day. Even if it's burnout a when I get home.

Hmmm. My best guess at mileage is 573. So if there is still any sun up when I get back, I might tack on enough extra to get to 600 - just to do it.

Thats a door to door estimate including swinging by the Air Force base to pick up the other two.

lol... Still amazed I burned through a PR3 in 4,000 miles, lol.
Sorry I rode the Street so rough... for all of 50 miles. I get it I will have to take it easy the next time. But yes... Travis came just in time with his used rubber, otherwise things may have gotten a little messy:whistle:

My plan is to head to Dallas on the bike this weekend to get more work on the tattoo, so it should be a good 6 hours of riding this weekend to prep for the 19th!

So me, THEBananaDZL and Whiteknight724 will meet about 6:45 am Sat at I-40 and Choctaw Road.
We'll meet Dave73 appx 8:45 in Atoka, OK (Cherokee Travel Plaza). We plan to be out of Atoka before 9 and on to Talihena, OK for a 2nd gas stop. Then across the Tailmena, Dr to meet Neanderthal and NoClue90 at noon at the Skyline Cafe in Mena, AR.
Then we'll go west on Talimena Dr, take a short detour south on 259 to check that out, then resume Talimena, Dr westbound.
We'll figure out the rest of the return route based on how late it is and how quick we want to get back
