Tachometer not matching engine (2k below)

390 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  BL0K3
Finally taken the plunge and bought the 675r after having my eye on one for a good while.

All seems well with it apart from one strange issue I've noticed (can't remember if it was always like this but I think I would have noticed).

When the bike is idling the revs sit at zero (or below) and only move when the bike is revved, it seems to be approx. 2k out on the dial. Engine sounds to be running fine and it seems to just be a mismatch somewhere between the engine and dial.

Any thoughts on this welcome before I start to have a tinker around.

Cheers

Check the fuses to ensure they are properly functioning. Bad wiring can also be the cause of a malfunctioning tachometer. If you are getting erratic readings, this can be a sign of bad wiring. Another potential problem is calibration issues.

Thanks, I've only just seen this response!
The previous owner told me that it was fine before he changed the spark plugs and then it started once he reassembled, any idea which connections this might point to?

Will check the fuses too

The readings is not erratic, but when the bike is off the needle is approx 2k below zero, idles at about 0, and then revs up approx. 2k less than it should.
