not tryign to steal anyones thunder and I know Tom is the man on this one, but trying to figure out some options for me to make this trip in April.

Right now I look set to do this.. My big thing is tires.

I rather reduce the variables if at all possible when on the street. Supersport tires handle the task adequate enough, but at the expense of 3500 miles for a rear & about 5000 for a front, with a Bridgestone S20.
Have never really had a chance to push on some of the other tires which are more in the 7000-10000 mile range.
So thinking I will have a set of tires sent to someones house or to the Hub directly (if there is a way to get it mounted?).. \
Might try running a T30 rear with a S20 evo front..

Tom & Ardell are Michelin pilot road fans, and seem to work well for them, any other input?

Ardell can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Mark (Gloryracing) can mount tires and lives close to the Hub.

I hear great things about the PR3/4's. Lots of good reviews on the Pirelli Angels. I knew a couple guys in the A group ran them. Hell, Mark is on sport touring tires and is pretty damn quick!

Been surfing the web, and it seems the conclusion is that the Angel GT's are the best performance "Sport" touring tire. They do seem to wear out a bit faster than the PR's but hell even 6000 miles would be fine, as long as we are talking 80% of the performance of a supersport tire.

Dave73 has experience with both the PRIII and the Angel GT (he was running the Angel GT 2 months ago) and said basically the same thing - that the GT performs slightly better but lasts slightly less mileage.

I have an Angel GT here at home waiting to go on the back just before the Rat Raid.

JD - depending on your trip itinerary, if it works for you, you can have the tires mailed to my house and the Gold Wing shop down the road will change them out for about $60/set.

Tom is going to give the Angel GT's a try this time, depending on what he has to say I might give them a try as well. We've had some talks with Dave and he's been happy with them. I gotta say though - the PR3's have been very solid performers. The PR4's are getting even better reviews.

Stef - you are correct. Mark has been outstanding about helping us out when in need. We've imposed on him at the weirdest times and he's been a champ. We typically buy him a nice meal for his services. I don't think I have his number, but pretty sure Tom does. Maybe he and JD could arrange something? And yeah - sport-touring tires don't slow Mark down at all, lol.

I wonder why they say you can only use those labels with their tires? Looks like an applique to me.
Any other label would cause catastrophic tire failure, sure it is in the fine print. :righthere:

I just ordered a set of Q2s, just for this trip. I highly recommend arriving with a new or like new set of tires.

$149 shipped a set. http://www.motosport.com/dunlop-sportmax-q2-tire-combo

EDIT: yes the Pirelli are a bit better performance wise than the Michelin, but most people don't ride at a-level to need the difference

Hey man heard you need a roomate?

Also looking to see if the Angel Gt's are worth a shit IMO, I am pretty slow so hopefully the Angel GT's will work..

Sure, Ill split the room.... none of that funky left coast purdy mouth stuff though. Oh wait, we will be in Arkansas....

To me its not just about fast or slow, I liked the profile and wear characteristics of the Anglels. Even though they did wear faster, with less leading edges they didnt chop as much as the Michelins did.

Slow is relative.

on public streets it quickly gets to the point where it's not a matter of how fast you can ride, but how fast you're willing to dive into a blind turn.

 Exactly. And I'm not big on not seeing what's in front of me, lol. I think seeing that big-ass bear in the road as Tom and I came around a corner pretty much cemented my already cautious blind-corner mentality. That and a few rides on US-129, lol.

I know and agree. I've been riding with JD for a couple years and he's just being modest. Plus I was just busting his balls.

..Yeah buddy, McKenzie pass comes to mind. Most defiantly the most technical road I've been on, especially going down. A lot of fun minus the occasional gravel. We got to hit again this year. I wish I could make the trip out to Arkansas with you this year, maybe next year!
