Triumph estimates nearly 50% of all their bikes with Ohlins will be affected and they are sending out notifications to registered owners. They are asking that you go to this Ohlins site though to check prior to scheduling a service appointment.

http://www.ohlins.com/recall/motorcycle-originally-equipped-ttx-shock-absorber/

If there is a stamped asterisk '*' after the batch number than Ohlins has already repaired the shock.

Models Affected

Daytona 675R ABS From 642869 To 703908 All except Brazil
Speed Triple R ABS and Speed Triple R 94 From 656713 To 715630 All except Brazil

Triumph is saying that if your shock is affected by this recall to not ride it and they are covering the cost to have the dealer pick up or tow it to the dealership.

dang, is anyone able to read their number? it is too small and too far back there to get a good enough angle on the numbers to be able to read them correctly. also my numbers are not stamped where the link says they are, mine are between the adjustment knobs and the top hat area.

Hoping I don't have to worry about this, going to go home and check over lunch. The dealer network here is few and far between.

Do you have a cell phone you can put in there and take a photo?

Haha actually tried that last night and my phone camera will not focus that close. Also tried putting a piece of paper over the numbers and scribbling with a pencil like in 1st grade with the leaf... didnt work well as the numbers were so small the detail just couldnt come out. Will be checking the vin range tonight

Looks like I need the service.

It really is difficult to see that number. I put my shop light on it and zoomed in with my DSLR camera and focused.

Contacted the dealer and they were about to call me they said. I'm the only one they've sold a bike to that's affected by it, apparently. Parts are being ordered and they expect them in on Tues. Just need to figure out how to get the bike there (1.5hrs away) or force them (they're suppose to anyway) to pick it up.

Good luck, guys!

Well that's just great. Mine falls in the vin range. Nice to find this out only a couple weeks after setting my suspension. I wonder if they'll let me do it, it would make getting the spring measurement easier if it is done off the bike anyway.

My '15 675R is affected and dealer wants me to pay to have it taken to them since it is a do not ride recall. Triumph says it is the owner's responsibility to get the bike to the dealer and then they will consider paying the transport cost if not your fault (its a safety recall-??).

You will need to pay someone for transport (or use your own trailer) and then send invoices/bills to triumph for them to possibly reimburse.

Seems to me since its a do not ride/safety recall triumph should just have the dealer pick it up, fix the problem and then let the owner pick it up from there. That seems fair and normal to me.

That's BS.

This is at the bottom of page 3 of Service Bulletin 524

Other Instructions
Owners are advised not to ride their motorcycles until the Safety Recall Action has been performed. You may therefore be requested by customers to make collection and delivery arrangements. Costs incurred should be added to the New (warranty) Prior record under an AP1 code.

I like what you say here. I will check this. I wonder if the dealer read this service bulletin.

History: my dealer called me about the recall, told me I would have to pay them a $60 hookup fee and $3 per mile to haul to them and back.

After a BMW sales rep told me that was hard to believe, I called Triumph in Atlanta on 5/18 and they told me their policy is its the owner's responsibility to get the bike to a dealer" and that they would consider reimbursement after owner sends them bills". They told me basically I would have to do whatever to get the bike to a dealer that they would only reimburse the dealer for the part and the labor.

Call them and ask. I think it might make them more aware and proactive with their dealers.

I'm starting to like this forum already--informative and helpful :)

You can't. It's a dealer document and not for public distribution.

Call Triumph America if they aren't willing to provide the tow. Also if you are paying payments on the bike check your local lemon laws. Some state laws require reimbursement of payments if the downtime is over a certain amount of time.
