My interest is basically dead for t675.net

Well folks, my as the title said, my interest in maintaining this site is dying if not already dead.

I love you guys like family, but this just isn't all that fun anymore since I sold it to verticalscope. We do the job of maintaining the place, while they don't give back anything more than an IP address for which this site runs at. All of which cost me nothing more than $100 a month. So my ability to care for preserving the profit of the site owners and advertisers against people peddling their wares just no longer concerns me.

I used to use what little profit I did make to negotiate deals with places like Sportbike track gear into selling gear to me at cost, to then give away in the raffles. I just enjoyed doing what good I could for the 675 community. But that is long gone now, and since verticalscope is a real company and they have a bigger need for profit than I did.

And it shows by their simple lack of commitment to upgrading the software of this site. I personally used to keep the site' software updated and tried to keep things moving forward, by coming up with new pages and different looks. But now it's just stagnating due to verticalscope's unwillingness to upgrade supposedly because a competitor of theirs acquiring the vbulletin software we run and they don't want to renew or upgrade. I was told they have some ultra fantastics smart guy who is the CTO, but in reality nothing is more frustrating as a being a top level IT Architect, consulting to the highest CIO's, VP's and CTO's for the Govt and fortune 500 to have to deal with this crap. They even tout on their main page how wonderful they are at maintaining uptime. We call this the "NINES", and they claim 3 nines meaning 99.9% uptime, where the sites are only "DOWN" less than 9 hours a year. With my meager $100 a month server I used to run this place on, I was providing better than 3 nines. So REAL Web and IT shops pride themselves on this number and strive for at least 4 if not 5 nines (99.99 or 99.999%). This would be less than 53 minutes or less than 6 minutes a year of downtime respectively. And most real IT shops spend accordingly to make it happen of which many of mine are running far larger, radically more complex environments than these simple websites and we achieve 5 nines with 80-90% of the agencies and achieve 6 nines on some. So this is purely a financial decision, and enough to frustrate me to the point of not caring.

So while Stew and Yung are great guys, they are probably hog tied on what their allowed to do. So I will ask them if they can fix the logins for jstu202 and shalihe74 as I can not find why the logins don't work. I will then turn over daily operations to them over the next month or so and stay as admin for a bit to help, but just fade to the back over time.

In the meantime, I am turning back off the user moderation function, as I just don't have the time or interest to babysit each registration anymore.

Sorry for being so long-winded... had a lot on my chest that needed to be said.

See you guys at the track days sometime!
Heath

It happens man. I'm sure all the folks around here appreciate everything that you did  Now go enjoy your time away from dealing with a bunch of silly junk on an internet forum.
We appreciate all the hard internet spy work you put in to get this place running smoothly Heath. Sorry to hear though, because without you this place will without a doubt start crashing down even harder.
Well maybe just some time away will make the heart grow fond again.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Burke. :flipoff: Shouldn't you be off raping mother earth for non-renewable resources somewhere? :biggrinjester:

I'll throw my empathy in with the rest, Heathster. Hopefully after a while away from all our cheeky shenanigans you'll start missing us and feeling masochistic again and come back.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA....

Didn't mean it that way :p

and I head out for another rapeage hitch tomorrow :D
Sorry to hear Heath, but thank you for all your hard work. Everyone truly appreciates it.

Now what do we do..? :lousyputer_smilie:
I completely understand Heath...

In fact, now that I've started my doctoral program, it is highly unlikely that I will spend any time here myself, except for the occasional pop-in.

When all of us OGs were first here we had the hot new girlfriend... Over time, we've bought her pretty, pretty accessories and have ridden her pretty hard...

But now, well, she's been around a while and spends far more time sitting in the garage staring at me than under me at the race track being ridden hard.

Mind you, when I do ride her, she rewards me, but other things in life have taken over and I seldom get the chance...

Hopefully we can arrange an OG track day sometime in the summer of 2012 and pull a few of us back together for some good times...

I no longer have the time or the energy for the day to day stuff any more either, and I have never even come close to the dedication that you have shown to make this place purr along...

Appreciate all you've done here, but completely understand the waining interest!

All the best, my friend!

Jeff

As I have said before I too have lost interest in the site. And I didn't do any of the heavy lifting. I just logged on back in early 06 and became a mod by you making me one. I didn't mind busting spammers and putting out a few internet fistfights, but it has grown into a way too large thing.
In the beginning it was a lot of fun and we had some real characters that kept things lively. Now it seems woefully repetitive and boring.
I haven't logged on in a week and holy crap, 3400 new post? I don't have time to read a quarter of them.
More later. Fugging work Calls.
Most of you know where to find me at the other place or Facebook.
You all have my phone number and can hit me up with a text or call anytime.
I can't believe how busy my life has become.
Not to jump on the band wagon, but as you've all seen, or not as the case may be, I haven't been on in a while and want to be sent back to being a lowly user.
My interest in this site waned long ago and there is surely a better candidate for mod to take my place......I'm sure there's someone out there but I couldn't tell you as I wouldn't know half the usernames anymore.
My 675 track bike, like Jeff was describing, has sat too long not being ridden. It's actually been over 2 years now since it last turned it's wheels under it's own power.
Sinful really, but life weaves it's own path and I have too much to risk if something even just semi-serious were to happen on the track. This evening I reached the conclusion to sell the 675. I'm stripping the track goodies off and will sell them separately from the bike (so watch the classifieds ).
Ya'll know to reach me via Facebook (until I kick that one into touch) or email me at [email protected]
I'll still have the Speed 3 or possibly a new 2012 V-Strom, so if you ever ride out this way holler!

Sorry to hear Chip.. but understandable. Shooting cans off the fence posts is a lot more fun anyhow.. :biggrinjester:

Just kidding buddy, a wise decision.. if you do start parting it out, I would be interested to hear what you have before hand?

Its like a special friend's dibs.. if you will..

I sent a FB message but didn't hear from ya.
The Penske sold already but I still have a PitBull damper and Jardine in the Parts Classified. :coolgleamA:
