Has anyone already installed the all new Windows 7 on their computers? If yo, what's your thoughts so far and is it worth it to step up from Vista to Windows 7? I am thinking to make the switch before the end of the year but I would like to hear comments from others? Thank you.

I have vista on my work computer. Its been problematic from day 1. It freezes way more often than it should. I wished I had taken the "XP upgrade" at the time we ordered it last fall. Hoping I can get IT to give me an upgrade to Windows 7 as reports of what I'm hearing are it is more stable than vista.

I think MS knew that they better get Win 7 right after the vista debacle.

After nearly a yr of use, I still don't like what they did to office 2007.

Agreed, I am still learning how to use the new Office. It has some cool features, but it is just completely different to use than the old versions. That is why I stick with Open office.org at home and don't bother to pay for Office on my own PC.

Performance wise, it's better than Vista exponentially, and better than XP in most applications. Gamespot did a comparison with average FPS in most modern high demanding games, and 7 performed better than the other 2 in most applications. As for easy of use and all asthetic features, it's up to the buyer.

I am running Win XP SP3 released 2002 (original released in August 2001). My employer is also running XP. Amazing that it took 8 years to release a usable upgrade, maybe

I use Open Office at home, great product for free, my employer just upgraded us to Office 2007. It is ok, can be a little weird for just basic stuff.

I also gave up on using IE, use Firefox and Opera.

Maybe I am just anti-MS.

I've been running Windows 7 since RC1 and currently have RTM installed. It has been rock solid and problem free aside from some driver issues but that is not 7's fault. Runs far smoother than Vista does.

I still use Windows XP Pro SP3 on my main home PC and at work...just reliable, stable and supportable in the enterprise moreso than the others IMO. I have Vista Ultimate on my gaming laptop but truthfully I purely use that machine to play the one game I seem to ever play since getting it..L4D. It's well spec'd and decked out and it's been good and stable, but I only do one thing with it and unusual for me, I just havent been inclined to dig into Vistas bowels and see what it can do. I just turn it on, play my game, turn it off. Kinda a overpriced and underutilized Midway arcade machine from the 80's.

I should be getting my copy of Windows 7 Pro in a day or so but I'm going to virtualize it and kick it's tires on top of VMWare workstation. I have decided to not bother with any upgrades, everything I have is working and I dont need any headaches. Virtualization or/and a new PC with Win 7 on it is the route I've decided to take.

BTW..I just bought a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard...."awesome"!!! Been away from my trusty Mac's for a few years, glad I brought one back into the family.

Same here. I went with the Professional version this time instead of Ultimate since I didn't need the extra few features in Ultimate and I could get Professional for $30 with the student purchase program. :biggrinjester:

Actually my alumni email account worked, but I just keep seeing Home Premium as a download. How did you get profressional?

Nevermind I see it.

now is this just an Upgrade or can I do a clean install with this? Their page for this info is taking a year to load.

We have Vista on a desktop and a laptop and it hasn't really been a problem. The only issues were from the occasional update out of the gazillions they've issued that would completely hose the desktop to the point of having to nuke it and start again, that pissed me off.

That said, I am waiting to see how the first couple of months go and to see if there is a sudden revolt, if all is well I'll pony up for 7.
Office 2007 has been a problem for my wife with her school work at times, she'll email stuff in and the faculty cannot open it unless she remembers to save it as a Word 2003 document (they are not using Vista or Office 2007), also some fonts don't carry between Office 2007 and 2003 so that has been a bug too.

Beat me to it. It's a great deal. If you pay 7 dollars more you get the DVD with both 32 and 64bit versions on it.
Microsoft does offers 32 and 64 bits in one DVD? I did not know that...
Can I update from Vista in 32 bits to Windows 7 in 64 bits? Is that something manageable?
