Hello all,
During my part out I noticed there are actually a lot of JIS phillips hardware on the bike. If you do not know what JIS screws are, have a look at these links:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-tools/jis-screwdrivers/
http://www.instructables.com/id/When-a-Phillips-is-not-a-Phillips/?ALLSTEPS
SO, how to determine if it's regular phillips or JIS? If it's JIS, you will see a dimple on the head:
After reading it, you should buy yourself a set of these screwdrivers, because I found these screws in the following places on the bike. This could save you a lot of heartache and fist punching because you rounded off the head.
Alternatively, you could try and replace the screws/bolts with JIS heads with allen or more traditional ones. If you do, it's ideal you use a JIS screwdriver on a JIS bolt/screw to get it off properly--or risk rounding it off.
Granted, you sometimes get lucky removing JIS screws/bolts with a regular phillips screwdriver, but the most common place I have seen rounded off heads is if you are doing the 1050 throttle tube upgrade.
So without further ado, here are places I found JIS screws:
-Throttle tube housing
-clutch perch retaining clip
-control switches (both sides)
-Gauge cluster
-Throttle bodies
I will update as much as I can as I run into them.
Happying DIY'ing.
