Also, I'm nearing the 40k mark, and it's running like a top - I haven't heard (and neither has the local triumph tech) of people putting heavy mileage on these machines. Glad to hear a positive long term ride report!

I'm probably being a little paranoid here, but I want to run something you guys just in case. Got through the installation of the new CCT, kept tension on it the whole time (with a rag), and set my tension closer to a half turn out. Kept the rag in as I turned the sprocket and everything. However, once I was done, I was turning it to check and make sure everything sounded ok. I was using a socket wrench and on the compression stroke I had to crank the wrench back. When I did this it clicked back and the chain spun counter clock wise a little bit. You can hear a noise briefly that sounds like a playing card in a spoke of a bike.

Is this ok (relatively) since the tension was on it at the time? Or am I screwed and need to set timing now.

Update: checked the timing marks, did not cause any teeth to slip. Better safe than sorry though!

Nice write up, will be using that when my ape Cct arrives next week. Is it ok to re-use the gaskets if they are in good condition?
If it doesn't leak oil after you reuse it you're good.

I hate to ask, as someone probably already has in this thread before me (just want to avoid reading 35 pages) and if not then it is a more stupid question than I thought, but, do I need to drain the Engine Oil prior to removing the crankcase cover?

You could even do this with the bike on the side stand to prevent as much oil from dripping out as possible. Honestly it's not that much if you do this on a paddock stand either.

I just did it, had zero mess. Had plenty of rags available if needed. Used one, for my hands.

Hello everybody,
I have a question about my stR with APE tensioner. Even I have installed the tensioner right (with hand tightening pressure while turning the engine clockwise) I have again a noise from cam chain in low rpm (1200-3500) and after 3500 it stops. After 1500km i removed and installed again the tensioner to see its condition and it was perfect but the noise sounds again in low rpm.
I did the job with 1/4 (90 degrees) back off the plunger. May I back off less (45-60 degrees) in order to be less noisy or something else?
Thank you.

If you over tighten it it's gunna make it wear out a lot faster than it should

Hi guys, I replaced CCT but missed one step - to lock guide (chain).
Does chain change position I mean skip few teeth on sprocket if it isn't locket?

I didn't rev engine, jus put CCT, tensioned it by hand ad only then rev'd engine.

Is it possible that I have problem with valve timing now?

Here's a good one and I'm probably totally missing it, but how can I tighten the lock nut when I cannot get a wrench/socket around it? The bolts holding the unit into the engine get in the way...
I just used an open ended 16mm spanner to tighten mine, not easy with the lock nuts in the way.

So I've been doing this mod for the last 4 days now! The install as normal went just fine but there's something that the installation instructions will not tell you. In addition to using the stock O-ring from the hydraulic CCT, you must also use the thin and very well blended/hidden metal gasket that is on the stock CCT! The gasket was the cause of most of my headache as I've done this a few times now and the fix ended up being the gasket!

To note, I used gasket maker on the engine cover and haven't seen any leaks. I've used it on my previous Daytona with no issues. The gasket maker I'm using is Permatex RTV Copper gasket maker. It's rated at a higher temp tolerance so I went with this over any of the others. Perviously I was using the RTV Black with no issues also.

So if you're looking to do this mod, on a 2013/3rd Gen Daytona, the '09-'12 model CCT will work (must have the triangle on the housing) but there are a couple things to remember. 1 - use the stock O-ring as instructed AND 2 - use the metal gasket that will be hidden on the stock CCT housing. The pics below will show what I mean.
