Engine trouble; air/fuel?

Having completed a valve and timing adjustment for the 12000 mi service, I now have the engine and peripherals back together but the engine is not running smoothly. The engine note from the exhaust pipe sounds slightly wrong to my ear, and when I blip the throttle it does not return to idle speed. It kind of hangs and slowly decreases. I thought it might be a mis-adjusted throttle cable assembly, but I checked that very carefully and it appears to be functioning normally.

Since disassembling the fuel rails and injectors and air box was part of the valve job, I'm guessing that I reassembled something wrong, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions for fuel or air systems that I might troubleshoot first would be appreciated. Thanks!

Follow up: I believe I found the problem. I decided to take the airbox off and look for issues with the fuel system, and when I got the airbox bottom section removed I noticed the throttle bodies were not seated correctly. I had difficulty putting them in the rubber pieces they sit in, and it looks like I over tightened the clips and squeezed them out of position. So, two lessons were learned: first, spray some WD-40 on the bottom of the throttle bodies so that they slip into their fittings (thaks dad!). Second, very little torque is required to tighten the clips that hold the throttle bodies in place.
Engine note has returned to normal and optimism is high that all is now well.
