The switchbacks and hairpins of the Santa Monica Mountains have lured thrill seekers for generations. But starting this spring, Los Angeles County will be throwing speed demons a new kind of curve.

There's pretty much only one rule for safety on The Snake... Stay in your lane at all times! Should be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few months...

We have some roads around my neck of the woods with the rumble strips. Actually, I think they are a good idea, they will definately wake you up if you cross the middle. I think they serve a good purpose if a driver is a little sleepy or tipsy. If it saves a biker (or motorist) from a head-on then you can't really argue against it. If you are having trouble keeping the bike from crossing over them then you need to slow down.

I ride those roads all the time. While it is sometimes the case that riders will cross the double yellow in a curve, it happens rarely (though knees and heads over the line are NOT uncommon on crowded days at The Snake.)

The bigger problem, for sure, are the cars, as noted above. I regularly see a**wipes cross the line in their souped up Hondas and Beemers, almost got seriously clipped by one on Latigo not long ago. And rumble strips won't do a damn thing to stop that...
