I'm entertaining the idea of replacing the RSU on my 2013 Street Triple R (that has 23k miles on it and supposedly isn't serviceable) with an Ohlins unit from a lightly used Daytona. On eBay there are a few RSUs from the earlier generation (08-12) available for a significant discount over the 2013+ units. Can anyone tell me how these differ and if the older unit will fit on my Street Triple? I'm not looking to absolutely **** my geometry, so differing shock length and mounting points could cause a real issue.

from what I recall it is possible but I believe a significant degree of modification is required. I have a 2009 Daytona and I was looking at putting on the Olin suspension from a 675r and it would have been a significant amount of work. Typically when we look at upgrading the front suspension most people install different springs and emulators. Sometimes it's possible to do a direct swap but that is usually the exception.

If you are looking at doing a swap because you are worried that you were forks are not serviceable I would encourage you to look again. I would be very surprised if they are sealed units.

If you are looking to improve your suspension New springs and emulators may be the way to go.

OP said "RSU," as in rear shock unit, which is usually at the rear of the bike.

To answer your question OP, an '11 or '12 TTX will not be a direct fit on your bike. The shock can be modified to fit, but it might cost more than you'd save.

Oh my mistake I thought it stood for right side up as opposed to an upside down fork. Disregard my statement
