R&G Side Stand Foot?

Sorry if this has been covered, but I tried a search first and surprisingly didn't come up with any relevant results...

Anyway, has anybody tried the R&G side stand foot on their striple? I have a 2009 and am wondering if it's worth the $50. I know I could just put a little piece of metal (to set the stand on) under the seat and pull it out on hot days when needed, but there is a certain convenience factor associated with it for me and I just don't want to have to worry about it. The reviews say that it doesn't contact the ground evenly or makes the bike lean too far upright--at risk for tipping over the other direction. However, those reviews were on a certain motorcycle accessories website and were for all sorts of bikes--not specifically for mine. I'm wondering if anyone has specific feedback about fit and function for the 08-11 version that I'd fall under.

I have an '84 Honda Nighthawk that I restored completely and even learned how to do 2-tone motorcycle paint with graphics for--I put a lot of hours and love into that bike. I just completely spaced on one hot day and came back to find the bike tipped over because the foot had punched through the hot asphalt. I've never laid a bike down or even dropped it, so it was pretty disheartening to find my baby banged up because of a really small, careless mistake like that. In my mind, an overpriced foot enlarger is cheap insurance if it works.
