Snetterton Supersport Review.
As the sun shone on a bright Snetterton circuit in Norfolk the supersport grid lined up with the triumph of Glen Richards on pole, followed closely by Steve Plater, Ian Lowry with Hudson Kennaugh finishing off the front row of the grid.
The clouds gathered above, all riders and fans were hopeing for a dry race.
The lights went out and Richards started well . Two fallers from the back of the grid on the first turn. Holes and Handley tangling in the first corner pushing wide and falling on the grass.
Crossing the line at then end of lap 1, Richards with a small gap over Plater with Kennaugh close behind.
James Webb lost the front of his CBR 600 going into the esses for the second time side swiping a Yamaha which had to take to the grass to escape. Paul Young also fell this lap.
Richards passes the line for the third time in the lead with Kenaugh showing him a wheel as they exit the first corner. With Plater and Westmoreland tagging along for a four way battle for first place.
The mid field pack all pushing hard for places with 6 a breast up the start finish straight 9th to 15th covered by less than a second at the end of lap 5.
As the sky darkened over head as the race moved towards half distance, will it rain?
Richards ran ride out of Sears corner, loosing the advantage onto the Senna straight, letting Steve Plater slide past using all the power of his triumph. Still just 0.3 seconds covered the top 4 bikes. Glen Richards took the lead back using the excellent pull out of the corner, of his Triumph 675, to full advantage as he moved past halfway down the long drag down Senna.
Again on the brakes heading into the esses Plater shows Richards a wheel but pulls back as they drop into the left hander. Just one lap later Plater slips past Richards cleanly into the braking zone for the esses, Westmorland pushed Kennaugh out of the way with a move reminiscent of 125gp racing, sliding up the inside just taking the apex first.
Heading around the long right hand Coram Richards looks one side and the other as they drag to Russells just looking for a space to get past. As a few drops of rain begin to fall the red flags come out after a large accident. Smart fell hard going through Russles chicane in 18th place, the race was quickly brought to a a halt as he required medical attention. Lap 14 was over 2/3ds race distance the result of the last whole lap will be the race result.
