For $4000 he's not getting a street triple. For that price range I'd stick to the SV650. 2nd year of fuel injected vintage, but pre-dual plug. Specifically 2004-2006 SV650S. Get one for $3000 then spend the $1K for the common improvements.

If selling the other bike to open up the budget, I'd say a few years old KTM Super Duke 990 R. All around great bike with top shelf components and bucketloads of mouth watering torque. And now, much cheaper now that that 1290 has come out.

I installed supermoto adjustable clip ons and was able to raise the bars enough to get a really comfy ergo...akin to a cbr600rr. Cheaper than $4000! and get the keep your 675. I hear the Helibars are good as well. Maybe better since they let you put the bar end weights on --not adjustable though

Yeah, I was basically posting a running inner dialog there.

I don't want a Street Triple, sorry guys....
You couldn't spell out your criteria any more clearly, lol. The bike you are asking for is exactly... the Street Triple. But if $4,000 is the cut-off, yeah, that eliminates it. You can get a 2012/2013 Ninja650 in great shape for around $4,000.

I want something with ham, bread, and cheese layered in some fashion. But I don't want a ham sandwich.

I was in the exact same position you were in. I wanted something more upright but till delivered some of that triple fun. I sold my D675 and bought the street triple, and I have been happier since.

You can probably find a tuono for $4k if you look long enough.

Or get a FZ1.

I know I know, trust me, I know! Its not like riding a motorcycle is a logical choice, why should I start now. In reality, I couldn't see selling the Daytona, since I would likely regret it a week later. So that brings me to getting a 2nd bike and keeping the 675.

The more I think about it, there is a reason I keep going back to the Speed Triple. Something is pulling me to it, telling me it is the right but wrong choice, but you must do it! If I don't get it, I will always want for one. I need to go find a dealer that has one and test ride it, maybe that will smash my dreams or empower them.

It is funny how low the prices were in the winter. I was looking at 2006-2008 Speed Triples and they were around $3500-$4000 in decent shape, now they are $5500-$6000 for the same condition bike. That is why I will buy in the winter.

To be fair - be sure you ride a Street Triple the same day. You'll see why folks trade their Speedies for Streeties, not the other way around.
