OBDII Scanner GAVE Me An Engine Light

So, I have a 2014 STR ABS. I also own a fairly nice OBDII code scanner that does live data. The other day I plugged it in to see what sensors I could read. But, the scanner never turned on. Upon a couple more attempts, I realized with the scanner plugged in, the ECU would shut off. I gave up and went for a short ride only to discover it tripped an engine light. It went away after 3 heat cycles and bike runs great, so, I assume no damage was done. But, I'm curious as to why this happened and if anyone else has had this problem before.

I would say you got lucky, and to never use that scantool on your bike again. But you already know that by now.

I don't know much about motorcycle ECU's Did you have your key on with the engine off (KOEO)?

Which scan tool are you using?

"I don't know who you noobs are. I don't know what you noobs want. If you are looking for attention, I can tell you I don't have a long span. But, what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very large amount of posts. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you drop this now, that'll be the end of it. I will not Google you, I will not photochop you. But if you don't, I will search the webnets for you, I will find you, and I will pwn you."

Yeah. It really freaked me out. It worked flawlessly in every single other vehicle I've ever plugged it into, including my wife's 2017 Elantra. But, this is the code reader that I own.
