Should I switch to Motul 300v?
Hello
I have been using Motul 7100 10w40 full synth on my Daytona since the first service at 500km and I have zero issues with it.
Been looking for my batch for the next service and I came across a bunch of posts regarding the use of Motul 300v racing oil. My question is the following:
Considering:
- 2014 Daytona with 35,000Km on it
- Full system exhaust (Bodis headers, CR-T)
- Ridden pretty aggressively on street, canyon carving most of the time with 1000cc buddies, she has to work pretty hard to keep up (but she does just fine!)
- Currently replacing oil every 3000Km
Will a switch to 300V make sense? Will it protect better at red line than 7100?
From what I gather this is a racing oil with less detergents and more pressure bearing additives that is designed for performance but for frequently rebuilt race engines with no cats. Worried about gunk build up inside the engine in the long run.

Racing oil is for racing, meant to be changed after every race weekend. 7100 is great stuff (it's what I use for racing) and will hold up to anything you can throw at it on the street.

Uh oh...oil thread! :)
I buy oil which meets engine recommendations and change it at recommended intervals. Per Triumph: "oil that meets specification API SH (or higher) AND JASO MA". The latter particularly important: JASO MA means no friction modifiers (these are bad for wet clutches). There are lots of oils that meet these 2 specs. I settled on Rotella* because it's a decent manufacturer, reasonable price (by me), readily available, and can be bought in bulk. Buy Motul if you want. I don't typically use it because it's more expensive and I don't see the added benefit/value. My 2 cents.

*Specifically, I gravitated to Rotella T6 in every bike I've had including race bikes. It meets JASO MA. There is no API S* rating because that is for gas engines...diesels use a different rating system (API C*). My understanding is that the herbs and spices added for helping with quirks of a diesel have no significant bearing on gas engines.
