You can hook up the pump to the bike and "test" the fuel pump in TuneECU or DealerTool. That should run it long enough to get all the gas out. It's probably not the greatest thing for the pump to run...

That's how I always do it, and I have feeler gauges with the same increments as yours. Always measure after you put in the new shim and you'll know if you're close enough to the middle of spec.
