What would have happened if you didn't sign this? They can't force you to sign that. I'm also pretty sure they can't turn a clear title into a salvage title.

Taking your bike to a dealer was a mistake.

Frames can be welded. It takes the right person to accept that repair work, and that's never going to be a dealer.

Where is the frame damaged? It could be something as simple as a steering stop.

Depending on the advertised description, you could have a awkward discussion with the seller.

Arawn The thing is we don't know what the dealership is refering to as cracked main frame; it could be as simple as a mounting point for a bracket having being torn off the frame during impact; I've seen that happen many times, a bolt that holds the fairing twists and breaks the frame around the threads, nothing that is significant but can be called a frame crack. I doubt one of the main frame spars is cracked, that would be fairly obvious.

cdenley I think any dealership, DMV, or insurance company will say a cracked frame is trash, but I had a huge hole in my frame and just had a plate welded over it and painted black to finish the racing season last year. Personally, I would try to have it fixed. I ended up swapping the frame just to be safe and since salvage frames are cheap and the rearset mounting points weren't really straight. That basically means rebuilding the bike from the ground up. The title/VIN would be for the frame, and clean title frames are expensive. For a clean title street bike, in my non-expert opinion and without seeing the actual damage, I would pursue having it repaired.

Arawn Get it checked by an independent mechanic; document the damage he finds and post back. I don't like dealerships because they will always try to get you to buy a new one instead, the independent mechanic does not have that motivation. I've seen bikes totalled due to "frame damage" that is nothing but a scratch in the frame, so at this point is unknown what the dealership is refering to as "cracked main frame".

Vince Accardo I had the same thing happen on a gsxr I bought years back. I only paid $1300, but it still had more damage than I expected. If the frame is cracked, the clean title is useless. You could find somebody with a clean title frame and move everything over but based on the write up from the shop, there isn’t much worth moving. You may be better off parting it out. The sad part is that a bike that is that beat up externally probably hasn’t been very well maintained internally.

Got screwed on a deal, NEED ADVICE!!

Happy to say I'm a new proud owner of a 2009 triumph daytona 675. I bought the bike for $3200 a couple days ago and was feeling great about it. I looked it over at the spot, it looked to be in rough shape, but nothing i couldn't fix. It had low miles (under 10,000) so i figured it couldn't be too bad.

I took it to my local triumph dealer just in case, i got back the inspection and they said i have a cracked main frame (among other problems) and told me i should take it to the junkyard. They were supposed to do some more work on it, but just blew it off. My guess is because they didn't want to be responsible for anything that happened to me when riding. I even had to sign a form saying they don't believe i should ride the bike and it could be a danger to myself or something along those lines.

Basically, I am looking for any solutions. Can i buy a mainframe on ebay and just change out everything? Wouldn't the VIN be different? if so, how would that work since the title links with the current VIN.

The bike has a clean title. Any advice helps, nothing negative please. Feeling pretty down as is.

-Thanks
