Well said. Seems like you found limits to riding on the track you wouldn't (or shouldn't) discover on the street - which IMO is irreplaceable. I need to get to a track...

Arawn I used to be a track whore and pussy on the road; seriously, I stuck with small street bikes and my sportbikes only saw duty on the track, the only times I rode them in the street was to get to the track. But I got to the point where I was not enjoying the track anymore; to me that pont was when I was trying to push the limits and... going down. I guess that made me a better street rider, now I ride my sportbikes all over the place; but when it comes to risk I perceive the track as higher risk than the street as I know I'll be pushing it way harder on the track that I ever do on the street.

I'll need to get a truck to haul my bike to those locations. I only have a two door car and the wife has a RAV4.

I e-mailed Austin Racing about the price for just the muffler. Will I need to get a Power Commander if I only install the muffler?
Riding the track makes you a better rider. Teaches you all the skills that SHOULDNT be learned on the streets and everything is done in a controlled environment. My wife hates my bike and literally has not TOUCHED it. I’ve had the bike for 7 years lol also, where are you finding these full systems for 800? I saw a used akra here for only 1k but didn’t have the means at the time

I was going to change my gp2r to a lower mount with the short pipe but decided not to when I was told the price of the new pipe and that it would be louder.

A full system will gain you power that the slipon alone won't, so if the cost is about the same I'd go with a full system. My bike was bought with the gp2r installed. If you want to go the cheaper route, termin8tr on this forum will sell you decatted OEM headers for a very reasonable price and you can then use an aftermarket slipon. If you go this route you should get a fuelling system such as power commander.
How can I get a hold of Termin8tr for the decatted OEM header?

ThatsAgood1Jay I would get a decat header and slip on with a tuner like Bazzaz or PC.

Either of those would do just fine...

Might look at Racefit or SC Project.

What are you looking for just sound or performance?

The slip on will give you a good sound and more performance. The muffler us just for sound only
Primarily just sound for right now. I don't race because I lack the skill, and there aren't any decent tracks in the area outside of the Autoclub Speedway in Fontana. I commute through L.A. traffic, so I really need it for the sound so others can hear me.
That's easy then, i would get the muffler that looks best in your opinion.

What test I've done, bikes can be heard below 50mph on main Roads. On Highway sound seems to travel behind you. When my girl passed me up, I didn't hear her until she was at my left front fender. At idle at a light I was aware there was a bike around me,so it put me on alert. Also in highway traffic I heard her
so yes a slip on does help, but not by much, lights seem to work the best in my opinion.

The downside is loud exhaust attract cops, it makes it sound like you are going faster than what you really are. Also other bikes m might wander to race you.

1. Autoclub Speedway
2. Buttonwillow Raceway Park (Buttonwillow, CA)
3. Willow Springs (Lancaster, CA)
4. Streets of Willow Springs (Lancaster, CA)
5. Chuckwalla Valley Raceway (Desert Center, CA, 2 tracks if you count going backwards)
6. Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Vegas, NV)
7. Spring Mountain Motor Resort (Pahrump NV)

All the CA tracks are less than 3 hours from you, and the NV tracks are only 4-5 depending on traffic. If you're willing to drive a little further you've got Laguna Seca, Sonoma and Thunderhill in NorCal. That's a shit-ton of tracks in your area. You don't need to race, just do some track days, and you will GAIN the skill to appreciate a full exhaust. Nobody sane starts racing because they think they're the best and they're going to win it all.
