12' 675R. Black box below exhaust? What is it?

What is the black box below the exhaust by the side stand. It looks as if is part of the vacuum system. Is it needed. If not ha anyone removed it.

Sure can be removed a bunch of owners removed it its acts like a car catalytic converter sucks fumes to protect the environment there is a detailed thread with steps in the How to forum

I think it is a vapor recovery canister and can be removed. However, there is at least one vacuum line attached to it so make sure it is is plugged or your bike will run like shit if it is left un-plugged. Likewise, it is just balast and doesn't detract from performance, but get rid of the damn thing. It is unsightly.

Yeah it's definitely an eyesore. I'm new to the 675 scene so I'm tryin to learn the ins and outs of this amazing machine.

You can remove it. The longer line is the vacuum. Tie up the plug from the relay to keep it from bouncing around, and start the bike. Two lines are the fuel overflow, so don't plug them. With the bike running crimp the longest tube to make sure you got it. If the bike runs better that's the one. Plug it with a bolt. If you want to do it right, remove the tank and plug it at the T where it comes off the air box.
