Last week I was in vacation (too much backlog), and I decided to spent it in Toscana, support base: Piombino
I spent the first night in a Signa's B&B, to dinner with friends.. We made the happy hour in a beautiful bar at Campi Bisenzio ![]() and then the dinner, with the "fiorentina" (rare steak) called also "la bistecca" ("the steak").. Forgive me for the bad photos quality, but i was there for eat, not for make photos ![]() Next day, early wake up and let's go! Appointment at Greve in Chianti with other friends, where was the start of our trip in Chianti's zone.. we rided on some of the most beautiful roads in Italy.. For the lunch, we decided to go to Volterra ![]() after that, I greeted my friends and I turned south, to Piombino, passing from Larderello and the suggestive geothermal power plant.. I spent the next days between motorbike's trips (the morning) and the sea (the afternoon) One of the trips I made is this: http://maps.google.it/maps?saddr=570...ra=ls&t=m&z=10 I first made a visit at the Calidario's spa ![]() then I rided to Donoratico, to run through the really tortuous and really funny road that arrive at Sassetta ![]() I made other curves and I arrived at "la foresta" (the forest) restaurant, in Suvereto.. very advised to the meat and Touscan typical cuisine lovers. Appetizer of crostini (croutons) with ragout and mushroom sauce, cold cuts and sausage ![]() and then, the doubt: tagliatelle (noodles) with mushroom sauce or wild boar's ragout? ![]() all of this, obviously, accompanied with a good red wine ;) Ended this perfect lunch, I runned to Amiata's mountain ![]() ![]() and returned to Piombino, passing from Roccastrada and Follonica... ...but the very amazing trip I've made is this: http://maps.google.it/maps?saddr=570...mra=ls&t=m&z=9 The fun start from Massa Marittima, a very lot of curves up in Roccastrada Really reccomended is the visit of the basilica... ![]() and the hermitage of San Galgano.. ![]() ..that preserves the sword on the rock ![]() ![]() ![]() a look of the Appennini from Roccastrada ![]() ![]() ..all the trips was very short, to allowing me to go to the sea on the afternoon, in places like Baratti.. ![]() ..or Cala Moresca.. ![]() ![]() ..or Salivoli, from where you can see perfectly the Elba's island... ![]() ![]() ...or Piombino... ![]() Finally, the trip for coming home http://maps.google.it/maps?saddr=570...mra=ls&t=m&z=7 good the stretch from Volterra to Castelfiorentino (if the asfalt would be better, it would be perfect), some curves also in Montespertoli, and then the legendary Futa's road What better holiday's than then, on the road with my bike, between land and sea? ;) |

That looks like an excellent vacation! The road up to Volterra was awesome in my little car back in 2008 when I was there with my girlfriend. I'd love to ride on the bike now
![]() We'll be going back to Italy this year on vacation, probably in the North-East near the coast. Or simply back to Lake Garda. One of my plans is to rund down to Bologna though and visit the Lamborghini factory. |

The coast of North-Est have the worst sea that I have ever seen.. dirty, dirty, dirty but the "movida" is very intensive.. lot of clubs, lot of bars, lot of people If you want to go to the sea, the Italy's Weast coast is a better choice ![]()

Thanks for the inside info, west coast it is then! Sardinia is on the list, but we're going by car and I don't fancy a ride that long.
