How much should I budget for gear?

Not sure if anyone remembers the thread, but last summer I crashed my Daytona and havent been on a bike since. Anyways, $5000 later...

I am looking to get back into riding, the correct way this time. Bike will be on a budget of ~$3000 for an SV650 but I want to know how much to budget for gear (I wont be buying a bike until I can afford proper gear at the same time)

I absolutely am not limiting myself. What it costs is what it costs, and the money comes with time, and I am willing to wait as long as I need.

What is the ideal amount for 1 set of gear? Lets assume my initial set is for fairweather riding. Again, I am not looking to go cheap, but also not looking to spend more than necessary

I'd say 500 at the lowest, to include simple gloves, textile jacket, and a plain helmet.

You start getting into leathers, lighter helmets with air vents, boots, proper gloves, riding boots, full leather suits, your looking easily over $1000-$2500

I recently just bought a whole bunch of gear due to me losing an incredible amount of weight. This is what I paid

Helmet - $599 (Carbon Fiber lightweight = excessive price)
Riding boots - $250
Leather Jacket - $350
Gloves - $40 (Sale)

That brought me well over $1000 for what I consider good gear with good features (venting and such) and good protection. I ride canyons a lot and went with quality stuff and paid for the lightest full face helmet on the market due to a neck injury. I also got a used full leather suit that cost me $250 but new those things go from $500 to thousands of dollars.

And by the way, the SV650 is an excellent bike. Might not be the best Canyon carver with its soft suspension stock, but it is an excellent and really fun bike.

Garage
You might try calling one of our excellent forum vendors and ask if they will make you a "package deal", worth a try anyway. Did you sell your D675 yet? PM me if you didn't.

I budgeted myself around 1k for gear on my first bike. I think I ended up around 800 ish with nice gloves, textile jacket, scorpion helmet, and riding boots. The scorpion helmet is really a good buy for how much they cost.

$1k will get you a decent stuff. Don't forget dedicated riding pants.

$100-200 will get you a quality helmet (Scorpion, HJC, Bell all on sale)
$100 for gloves (Full gauntlet, all leather)
$100-150 for boots (Track style, none of that hi-top shoe style shit that doesn't protect anything)
$300-500 for a lower end 2 piece suit. (You get pants and a jacket, and you can separate them)

So, you can probably get a full set of gear for under $800.

Same as I was thinking 800-1000. Lid, gloves, jacket, boots, riding jeans, knox knee guards.

Rev-It makes some great multi season gear I have the Ignition jacket that is good for three seasons, I bought it in 08 and it has held up well to all kinds of riding and weather.

Also you could shop helmets with some of the venders on the forum and see what kind of close out deals they have going on I saw a Bell Rs-1 for $224.00 thats a great deal. I would think for around $1000.00 if you shop you could find a nice high qaulity set up for year round riding.

I'm right at

~$500 for a nice helmet
~$700 for a good used leather suit
~$200 for riding boots
~$150 for full leather gloves

So that is right at $1550 for all my gear, but it is all pretty good stuff. You can def. do it cheaper if you need to and you can also go way higher if you'd like.
