After service there are some issues that my mechanic needs to solve....but he has taken off on a weeks vacation so have to wait for his return....or...?
First of all I am wondering what part the attached image is showing? Never seen it before (when cleaning etc), so figure it must have been attached somewhere. Now it just hangs loose.
Can this be related to the BIG issue, with me not having any breaklight anymore? The backlight is on when bike is running, but no response when pressing break handle/foot break.
Blue Monday...on a Friday....stressed mechanic... Still, will return the bike to the mechanic when he returns (and I get a chance to talk to him), but his shop is 2 hours away so was hoping for some comfort in here.
Pretty sure the only things on the the bike that have a plunger actuator like that are the clutch switch, kickstand, and front/rear brake lever switches. Looks like the rear to me. Do you have aftermarket rear sets?
Turn the bike power to on, push it in and see if anything happens.
Yes, I got aftermarket rearsets. Was mounted when I bought the bike secondhand.
Went out, turned the bike on, and pushed the actuator
-> Backlight dims (or actually goes to normal...)
-> Pressing the footbreak now lights up the breaklight (still pushing)
-> Pressing break handle does NOT light up the breaklight (still pushing)
Why does it only effect the foot break?
And where is this mounted? Since I have not seen it before, it must be fastened somewhere.
Well, will ask the guy who did the service to fix it when he is back. Not that good at
the electrical parts, so do not want to mess around.
So the plunger is normally depressed by the brake handle. Once the handle is pulled, the little plunger extends, should be an audible click. This is how the front lever activates the brake light.
Your front brake power wire is tied in line to your rear brake lever switch power line.
This switch is located on the underside of the front brake lever.
^^^ what he said. I have the same type of switch on my Aprilia. I would reinstall it back and see if it stays. Kinda odd that would fall out so I going say someone popped it out or hit it pretty hard to knock it out. Hopefully it's not broken.
With the plunger extended as it is, the brake light will be constant on. So it will appear as though the rear brake lever doesn't work, since the brake light is already activated. Normal operation the plunger is depressed. That's why the rear brake lever works if you hold the plunger in.
The front brake doesn't work at all because that piece is missing. You can pull the brake lever in to give clearance, then push that switch into place. Hope this helps!
Looks like there are two wires, one gray and one brown. Checked my service manual which covers the 13+ Daytona and Street Triples, could not find a switch on the wiring diagram with those wire colors.
Thanks to all. Amazing community . And a big thanks to ALLoneUP for the pics. Think I got it now, and have expanded my bikeknowledge 150 %!
