Hi all, so I'm new here and looking at getting a Street Triple and had my heart set on one for ages now. I currently have a Honda vtr250 and am looking at the upgrade but I need help from the experts choosing the model. Personally I love the look of newer headlights and old under the seat exhaust, I'm also happy to do some tinkering to get the look I want. but I'm not 100% of the pros and cons between years so id love to hear your thoughts.
Yepper - this is correct. I've seen on the boards where several folks put the new-gen lights on the 1st gen bikes, but never have seen anyone put underseat cans on the latest gen bikes.
Note to mods - along with the piss-poor lag time since the site upgrade - now the "Quote" feature is not working for me.
yeah that's the look I like, I think its to do with the symmetry and I also wont be riding it that hard to notice the lower CG.
I am keen to know the main differences between the 1st gen and later gens as I'm happy to go down that path if it suits me better.
You can't use TuneECU to update the fueling map on the '13+ bikes. The '13+ bikes also have a fuel gauge incorporated into the instrument cluster. They also have incredibly terrible mirrors.
Pretty sure the exhausts are not swappable between the generations.
Hmm, how useful is TuneECU?
A fuel gauge would be great, my current bike does not have one and it is a pain.
I didn't think the exhausts would be interchangeable but I'm happy to compromise on that if I have to and I'm sure the mirrors shouldn't be too hard to replace with better ones, what is the main issue with them? vibrations?
I do like to tinker and make it a bit personal its more the key features or issues between models that I'm a noob at.
I really appreciate the help
Gearing is shorter on the pre 13's, which I like. Also more subdued radiator cowls and some slight ergonomic things that you only notice if you have both side by side. I don't like the 13+ as much so hopefully nothing ever happens to mine!
I ditched the underseat cans for a low mount Arrow though, too much heat coming off of them in my climate.
So many have the stock exhaust but currently a full sc project race exhaust (side) with PCV tuned and dyno'd. Can easily swap exhaust and unplug the PCV. Best of best th worlds....:nerd2:
Yes, it's for sale and will consistently dear reasonable offer for a garaged, 52 yr old ridden bike with other options...
The mirror is supposed to be adjustable, but is not. You can adjust it horizontally by moving the entire assembly. But it is still way too low to see anything out of.
Vertically? Again, you move the entire assembly...which means moving the clutch/front brake lever perch forward, which means changing the angle of the lever. Or move the bar in the mount, which does the same thing.
My solution was to buy Ducati Monster mirrors, plus the bar clamp/perch mounts (because the thread size is 2mm different). Fortunately they are all Brembo parts, so aside from being expensive...at least it is a painless swap.
The Ducati mirrors actually adjust in both vertical and horizontal axes, and you can find a pair for about $60. The mounts/hardware are another $40, so $100 down the road, you are good.
I will keep the stock mirrors for when I sell the bike. Maybe I'll offer the Ducati mirrors to him after he has owned it a week.
The only issue I have found with my 2009 is that the aftermarket for them is dwindling. You can find things for them, but just not as readily as the newer ones.
I second that, i like the look of the side exhaust better. I mean under the seat is cleaner lines maybe, but after an hour of riding and being stuck in traffic, its a bunwarmer.
