I have a 06 fork and an 09 fork tube from a daytona 675 - I just measured the chrome slider length and the 06 has a 10mm shorter chrome tube than the 09. (06 - 20 13/16" vs. 09 - 21 3/16")
Yet I have been told that the daytona has a shorter travel (110mm) than the street triple (120mm). Is there a travel change between 06 and 09 daytonas?
Any input? Just curious here. I don't think triumph would mix and match parts, there has to be a reason for the difference.
doh! i just realized this does make sense. The 06-08 daytona most likely has the same travel as the street triple forks. The 09+ daytona forks (10mm shorter than the 06 daytona forks) have the 10mm less travel, since the tube is 10mm longer. That will mean the lower tube will hit the top cap, 10 mm earlier.
I don't think you can compare like that - first of all it is best to compare the complete forks instead of making assumptions based on parts.
Looking at aftermarket cartridge drawings for Daytona 06-08 and Daytona 09, then stroke (110mm) and overall length (726mm) are the same, but the height internally in the axle clamp is different and so is stanchion length between the two forks as mentioned before...
@JanM,
Have you noticed different spring free-lengths between D675 model forks? I have seen both 235mm (mine and what K-Tech claims for the 2010) and 245mm lengths stated. That 10mm difference can wipe out most of the pre-load adjuster's usefulness when setting these up, if you are not aware of it and adjust the spacer accordingly.
I have only seen and measured Daytona 675 06-08 springs as 241mm free length, haven't seen 09 springs. Ohlins states 06-08 replacement springs as 242mm free length.
In any circumstance, it is always a good idea to measure your springs free length and the built-in length to makes sure what you actually have...
