Hello, I just picked up my 08 with 37k km on the clock last week. CEL was on when I bought it, owner said it was from the exhaust valve removal, but it ran fine all weekend. Took it to work today and it wouldn't start on the way home. I can hear the fuel pump cycle and it cranks strong like the battery is solid but it just won't start. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated since there are no dealers in my area of Japan.
I tried it with my battery tender attached. Same problem. I check all the fuses and they are good. Also I connected to tuneECU and it was throwing 3 codes. Two for the exhaust valve and one for coolant temp sensor. Still not starting. Any ideas.
When the crank position sensor fails that's what usually happens. It works one time and doesn't the next. But you should really check for spark to be sure.
Thanks for the reply, I've been reading post after post and that's what it seems like to me too. I ordered new plugs so when they come in I'll pull the tank and test for spark. If there's no spark I can assume it's my CPS?
Yup. I went through the same thing recently, and I replaced the CPS on it's own. It solved my issue but I wasn't able to test my stator until after I wired in the new CPS. Once I did I found my stator was pooched and should have replaced it at the same time.
I am having the same issue right now. My 06 675 was running fine, and then last week it just stopped working. It cranks with no problem but it doesn't catch. I am assuming it's because there's no sparks since i already did a tune up on it. So are you suggesting that I replace the CPS first before the ECU. And how much would it cost for that?
Thank you guys once again. It sucks the sensor is part of the stator and such an expensive part. I've been trying to find a source for the OEM part that can ship quickly but I've only been able to come up with bikebandit. I've read mixed reviews about their service. Anyone have other suggestions for where to buy?
If the coolant temp sensor is faulty then you will need a new one. Bit of a pain to get to as it's at the back of the motor and requires removal of airbox and injectors and they're the real pain.
If the sensor is faulty then the ECU will think the bike is cold all the time. This is OK when the engine IS cold, but once up to temperature the ECU will be trowing too much fuel in and your bike will run like a pig under 8,000rpm. You will also smell the petrol out the exhaust.
Can I swap an ECU from another 2008 model without issue? I know some bikes that won't work.
I've searched the topic and found a lot of members saying it should work and some saying the clocks need to match. Just wondering if anyone has done it or knows someone who was successful.
I replaced the stator & CPS at the same time since it's all one piece. I paid a premium for it here in Japan since it's a rare bike. List price is $400 in the states.
