I was just washing my bike and decided to put it up on a rear wheel stand, start it up and put it in gear to get some water off of the wheel and chain. Well, i noticed that the chain moved in an unsafe manner and it has me worried a bit. I will attack a YouTube clip below.
This can't be normal, can it? Is it a chain adjustment issue (too much slack)? Or an alignment issue between front and rear sprockets? Or both....
Looks to be a little loose but the jumping is caused by stretching of the chain in some areas. It's normal for the chain to be looser in some areas and you should adjust it to the specified tension on the tightest area. It does not look excessive but if you get time I'd measure the slack personally.
Thats because there is no weight on the wheel... Deciding anything about the chain going off that video is not a good idea. Properly measure slack with the bike on the ground. Then ride.
Mine does the same thing. But definitely looks like you're in third gear or something.
