I always like to hear how gear holds up in accidents so by all means ask if you have any questions. I was up riding with a buddy Saturday on ACH coming home after gas in Wrightwood. I was behind a random ZX-10R moving at a good clip on my STR with my friend on his S1000R. I was doing 55-60mph when a young buck ran out from the woods and b-lined for me. My friend says I tried to swerve left but the buck did too and I hit him straight on and went tumbling with the bike. Two other bikers stopped to help and while my friend rode down to call 911. From there I was airlifted to the hospital and got out yesterday but am obviously still in a ton of pain.
Gear:
Helmet: Shoei GT Air
Jacket: Rev'it Ignition 2
Pants: Rev'It GTRs (zipped into jacket)
Gloves: Racer High Race
Boots: Alpinestars SMX-1
Damage to me:
Broke clavicle in 3 places
Fractured scapula
4 fractured ribs
Punctured and partially collapsed lung (they said it re-inflated shortly after)
Minor road rash on calf and hip (required no treatment)
Damn deer! Glad you survived, but I know how bad a cracked rib can hurt, let alone four plus collarbone, arm and a punctured lung. I don't envy you right now. Good luck on a speedy recovery.
I got stopped for that chick around 2pm too. I even remarked to my friend how it felt like people got helo'd off the mountain at least half the time I'm there. Should have been an omen. CHP listed the crash as 3:55pm. I was past Newcombs towards Wrightwood when it happened.

Man, that is bad luck for sure! I've been up ACH countless times and only saw deer across the road once (7-ish pm). "Deer o' clock" is typically late afternoon-early evening. 4pm is pretty early in the summer. Heal up soon! Definitely would've been much worse without proper gear.
Yeah we try to get off the mountain by 5 to avoid deer but shit happens. I'd definitely have a lot of rash and still be in the hospital without leathers. Im curious how the gloves came out. Racers are supposed be the most protective gloves you can get and my hands came out 100% ok.
Glad you are okay, the bike the gear........ all can be replaced.
There are some part of the USA, that notorious for deer and other creatures, here in New England (northern) we have moose. in Minnesota I almost hit a turtle...
My fear and is Big Foot :surprise:
Sounds like you are very lucky to still be here with us. It's scary when things out of our control happen. Insurance covering the bike? I hope. All the best in your recovery. Bikes can be replaced.
Nothing; just bad luck. But on other hand it's a good luck of you that you have gear up with the right kind of protection.
Heal up soon.
