I sanded down the pads (60 grit sandpaper - just lay it on the ground and run the pads across it until the wear marks are gone) and took Scotch Brite pads to the discs (the stuff is like real fine sandpaper). Did the trick.

BTW, you pretty much remove the rear caliper the get the pads out. I discovered that the caliper pins (integrated into the mounting bolts) were pretty much dry. Have some brake grade grease handy.

If a British high school dropout can put it together, I can take it apart.

South San Francisco. I haven't had a chance to ride with the screen yet - I bicycle to work. I'm racing supermoto at the West Coast Moto Jam next weekend, so the Striple is going to be in the garage until the weekend after that, when we've planned a fun ride.

My rear brake is a little squeaky as well. Thanks for the suggestion on how to stop it, even though it's not exactly a huge problem. Definitely doesn't ruin the ownership experience

I played around with number today on a short little ride. I've discovered on fairly level ground, around 4000-4200 RPM, going anywhere from 48-60 MPH in 6th gear, I'm getting 47-48 MPG. Down slope, it jumped up to 55 with my hand off the throttle until I hit level ground again. Up slope, it dropped to 43-45.

That's a whole lot more than I've been getting puttering around in 4th gear around town.
