Watch out for wheelie bin revenue cameras its on again.

Operation Safe Hills 2012, launched today, will target speeding motorcyclists in the Adelaide Hills in a bid to address what police say is a significant problem.
Officers armed with speed cameras will be out in force between Lyndoch and Victor Harbor over the next three months using covert tactics aimed at reducing road trauma.
The dangers of speeding motorcyclists are being highlighted as part of Staying Alive, a road safety awareness campaign run by The Advertiser and Sunday Mail in conjunction with SA Police, the Motor Accident Commission and the RAA.
Statistics show 48 motorcyclists have died on the state's roads since January 2010, with speed or dangerous driving a contributing factor in more than 40 per cent of fatalities.

Traffic Support Branch officer-in-charge Superintendent Bob Fauser said police had received many complaints of motorcyclists racing through the Adelaide Hills and warned riders they would be caught if they continued to drive at high speeds.
Supt Fauser said motorcyclists were at greater risk of serious injury if they were involved in a crash, especially at high speed, because they were more exposed than other road users.
"Preventing fatalities resulting from motorcycle crashes is a significant challenge for SA Police," Supt Fauser said.
"In November 2011, our overt cameras captured road users in the Adelaide Hills exceeding the designated speed limit by up to 90km/h.
"These results suggest that there is a significant problem in that particular area."
Supt Fauser said the operation was primarily aimed at motorcyclists.
However, other road users who drove dangerously and put responsible motorcyclists at risk also would be caught.

About the only thing lower is the propaganda and manipulation of statistics that go with a revenue raising exercise such as this to justify it all. E.G the 40% of deaths in which dangerous driving or speed is a contributing factor. Not only by grouping dangerous driving with speed but the whole manipulation of the wording. Speed could mean doing 1kph over the limit, or 90kph over.
You could even argue that speed is a contributing factor in any accident in which a vehicle is moving, but it is only one of many and in most cases it isn't contributing very much..

So easy to fudge a figure like that simply to try to convince the general public that we are all a pack of idiots with a death wish that need to have a campaign against us to stop the behaviour.

What % were killed by SMIDSYS I wonder, or travelling at or under the speed limit? Must have been almost 60% if you use their logic I suppose!

I suppose you could also say that 100% of motorcycle accidents involve at least one motorcyclist! This would also back their decision to try to make is an endangered species by legislating us off the road.

I like there quote (covert tactics) must be getting harder and harder to keep up there quota so they need to resort to catch people eg down hill runs where you slowly creep over the limit without knowing and basically fining people for human error.

But if you get caught doing eg 190km/h in a 100km/h zone you have know none to blame but yourself to be honest.

Tip for one of there hot spot is just outside of Kangarilla after the Mclaren Flat turn off, seen them sit there a few time as they get a straight view towards Kangarilla and its hard to spot them in distance as its tempting to over take banked up slower traffic in a township speed zone.

To be fair there's a bunch of squids killing (at least) themselves so the po po definitely have to do something...as a taxpayer why would you want anything else? That could be your nephew or neice, right? If you know WTF you are doing it won't be an issue for you...sayin

I agree that if there is a problem in the Adelaide Hills ( and I honestly don't believe it is any worse than any other year, but they tend to focus on crap like this before a big blitz) , they may need to do something, so here's an idea out of left field or you!
How about actually getting out there as a police force and being very visible!
This has the most dramatic effect on driver/rider behaviour on the roads, not hiding speed cameras in bins to issue collect the maximum amount of money possible.
As a motorcyclist, if you are seeing a cop car or two everytime you go for a ride, you tend to think that next time you go out it is on the cards that you will see another one, so you adjust your riding to suit that environment.
The police dont even need to issue tickets to achieve what they say they are trying to do ( save lives). Just be out there and having a constant presence is the best way to reduce squidly behaviour and ultimately deaths. Unfortunately, that is not what this is about. Hiding a camera in a bin is nothing more than a revenue raising exercise.

Your spot on there sirhosis of deliver, seeing them active on the roads does make people think and slow people down, but seeing them hiding in bush's just makes people angry and defeats the purpose, which was kind of the point I was trying to make. End of the the day they are just doing there job cant be to hard on them, I use to have a friend who was in the motorcycle police and quiet liked his job as it wasn't just all about sitting on speed lazer all day, he use to be straight up and honest and said its all about revenue.

So....a rider is having an overly spirited ride through the hills and gets snapped over the speed limit by an unseen covert camera. The same behaviour continues for a couple of weeks before receiving the fine and decides to head on into a car and die. And this is saving lives how?

They beat out the same old rhetoric...every time there is any accident with excessive speed they say 'the message is just not getting through' .... 'people continue to ignore the message' etc etc. Maybe....just maybe....the way the message has been delivered for all these years is at fault?

spot on i was saying a similar thing to my mrs while driving to newcastle & seeing all the fixed speed cameras, getting a ticket 3 weeks later doesnt slow down someone going mental at the time

cameras in bins, i cant believe they are "wheelie" stooping so low now....
