If the frame and forks are straight than it could be a good deal, but as people have said, forks are VERY expensive to replace. Also look at it this way: 2013 Daytona 675s are about to come out, so if you wait a year, you'll undoubtedly find great deals on non-crashed bikes. I don't think anything is necessarily wrong with the idea of buying it and getting a smaller bike to learn on, but by the time a smaller bike has taught you all it can you'll be able to find plenty of better deals.

I would say go for it. Good price if you ask me and already has been down so who cares if you drop it learning. Check the frame and forks. That is a pretty fast crash but it all depends on how the bike tumbled...

I wouldn't recommend the 675 as a first bike. Not only are the powerful, the main thing is they are really responsive. Responsive is a good thing if you are an experienced rider, but if you are a beginner, you can get into trouble real fast. Find yourself an SV 650 or something similar, an SV would be PLENTY of bike without being so crazy as to get you killed.

beginner rider side, $4900 seems like a lot for a bike that has been down. Its not a ripoff, but there are bikes in that price range that have not been down. I say keep looking. Its nice he's right across the street, but there are better deals out there.

Do you have a link to the craigslist ad? Maybe we can help assess some of the damage. If it was the best way he could have crashed, I don't understand how the suspension adjusters got damaged. My bike went off the side of a mountain, and my adjusters didn't get hit.

$4900 may be a great deal if it is in good mechanical shape, or it might be a horrible deal if there's damage beyond what you can see. Any links to the CL ad?

I'm in Ohio so I'm definitely not trying to steal it out from under you, but seeing a few photos would say a lot.

The whole "Is a 675 a good starter bike?" thing has been beat to death and a ton of threads on that, so I won't comment on that part.
