Hi, as Triumph are claiming significant improvements in fuel economy on the new 2013 model, does anyone know if this would be available as a remap on the older versions.
One of my very few complaints about the STR is the limited tank range and better economy would mean less fill ups!
The press release said it now has a progressive cam on the throttle bodies so that small throttle openings in the lower range of movement are now even smaller. Kinda like a throttle tamer but on the engine side of the cables. Plus changes in the lower RPM timing to work with the new throttle throw.
.
Personally I prefer a straight rate, short throw throttle on a sporting bike and couldn't care less about MPG.
The reviews all mention a taller first gear. That would actually be a nice change as I seem to always waffle on whether to be in first or second in 25 MPH zones.
For those commenting on why should I be concerned about fuel economy, it's not the cost it's how much of my riding time I have to waste looking for fuel stations and filling up.
Surely no one could complain if they had to fill up less and ride for longer.
The issue is gearing and aerodynamics. They said they improved fuel economy in town. This is because of the methods mentioned. No improvement will be seen on the highway so overall your tank range will likely be unaffected unless you are complaining about finding a gas station in town.
I did a quick comparison . I get about 40mpg revving it and 48 on the highway . Im sure when this 2013 comes out it'll be evident .
